The popular "Deck the Halls" song is a Christmas carol that dates back to the sixteenth century. It wasn't always associated with Christmas, however; the melody comes from a Welsh winter song called "Nos Galan," which is actually about New Year's Eve.

"Angels We Have Heard on High" The song's subject is the birth of Jesus Christ as narrated in the Gospel of Luke, specifically the scene in which shepherds outside Bethlehem encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising the newborn child. Just as the origin of the words to this French song is unknown, so also is the melody. Since it was common for text to be written for existing tunes, it is possible that the melody is even older than the words. The tune as we know it today was adapted and arranged by Edward Shippen Barnes.
