I created these one-of-a-kind pairs of Art Earrings. They were inspired by Medieval Muses…
The "De Medici" Cross and Hearts earrings are made of Sterling Silver with hearts of copper and 18K gold bimetal (18k layered over sterling silver). Accented with stones of onyx and tourmaline and large black pearl, these earrings measure 3" x 1.24".
The "Eleanor of Aquitaine" Butterfly-Liberty earrings are made of Antiqued Sterling Silver and each is accented with a textured copper heart, stones of tourmaline and agate, and tiny bronze beads. Measuring 2.25" x 1.25", a large pear-shaped faceted pearl dangles at the bottom of each earrings.
The story behind the Butterfly-Liberty Earrings:

Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204)
Eleanor Duchess of Aquitaine was wealthy, intelligent, and ambitious. She reigned as Queen of France from 1137-1151 while married to King Louis VII, and as Queen of England from 1154-1189 during her marriage to King Henry II. Although the latter marriage produced eight children, it was a contentious relationship. Henry imprisoned Eleanor from 1173-1189, during which time he took many mistresses. Although he treated earlier liaisons discreetly, he flaunted his affair with Rosamond Clifford, hoping that Eleanor would grant him a divorce. She did not. Henry released Eleanor after Rosamund's death, although Eleanor remained under custodial supervision until Henry died.

Eleanor is entombed next to Henry and her son, King Richard the Lionheart, in Fontevraud Abbey in Anjou. Her tomb effigy shows her wearing opulent jewelry and reading a bible.

My "Liberty" Earrings symbolize Eleanor's longing for freedom during her imprisonment. Die-cut, hammer-textured, soldered, and patinaed, they are made of sterling silver, bronze, brass, Amethyst, Crazy Lace Agate, and faceted pearls.
