Curtiss H 75 A GC1/5 Pilot Marin la Meslée Battle of France May-June 1940

Less well armed than the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Curtiss H 75 was more maneuverable and more resistant to damage. In whirling combat, he outclassed all his contemporaries, and the Messerschmitt pilots had no choice but to take advantage of their increased speed to escape. Marin la Meslée, then a lieutenant, scored twenty victories – sixteen approved and four probable – at the controls of a Hawk, mostly won in May and June 1940, thus becoming the most successful ace of the France campaign.
