I needed surgery and the procedure would leave a bright red line, just above my collar bone. Over time this would become a barely visible scar, but until the incision healed, my surgeon suggested using choker necklaces as a cover up. Following the doctor’s advice, I went searching for chokers to wear in a business dress setting. I quickly became frustrated. Unless I wanted to spend over $250, I was out of luck. So, I decided to make my own. I’d been crafting since grade school but never explored beading.

My first piece was a mauve choker made of glass beads, to complement a favorite suit, and was far more affordable. I found the process so fun and energizing, I became obsessed with learning how to create using different techniques and styles. My passion was born!

Over the last 18 years, I have been soaking up knowledge, taking classes, reading books and magazines to build my skills and earn a certification in jewelry design. I’ve gifted, donated to charity auctions, and made custom pieces as my skills grew. I learned over the years that making jewelry was my creative outlet; a relaxing hobby that helped balance my roles as a wife, a mom, and an employee in corporate America.

Now, after climbing the corporate ladder for decades, the opportunity to shift career gears has arrived. I’m pursing my dream… owning a small business that creates handmade jewelry and crafts inspired by nature, art, and culture.

That small business is called Tresfes (pronounced Trez-fes), a short version of Treasures for Every Season.
