- Raw mineral jewellery - fossicked & found in Australia. -
I'm Dr Kat; a full-time scientist and part-time metalsmith. I enjoy chasing thunderstorms, science, geology, lapidary and fossicking. When I'm not working, lecturing or studying you can find me in the field finding rocks, minerals samples and objects from the Australian environment to incorporate into jewellery pieces.
Australian rocks and minerals form a fundamental part of my work and practice, alongside found objects within the environment. These are carefully cleaned and upcycled into unique wearable pieces of art. Wherever possible, item locations and sources are provided so that you can learn about the environment in which they were found and the processes that led to their creation.
My goal and purpose it to introduce you to the Australian environment, to learn about mineralogy, the rocks and minerals found and the places where they have been uncovered from the Earth. Come on a journey with me.
Vintage items are also a love of mine so are included in my work wherever possible - you'll see items such as vintage postage stamps, worked vintage china, recycled copper electrical wire and wallpaper (just to name a few upcycled items).
I hope you enjoy them as much as I love creating them.
