I was a little hesitant about taking checks from people. In your experience, is that limiting your sales?

I'm a little but weary about it, but I know everyone doesnt like to use paypal.

A few years ago 90+% of my payments were with check (and I rarely had any problems). Now less than 5% are check, all the rest PayPal. I am still happy to accept checks, and have good experiences doing so.

Few people send checks, but I have always had a good experience too. :)

I'VE TAKEN CHECKS IN MY OTHER VENTURES AND HAD NO PROBLEMS. THE KEY IS TO WAIT TIL THE CHECK HAS CLEARED AND THE MONEY IS ACTUALLY IN YOUR ACCOUNT (CAN TAKE UP TO 10 BUSINESS DAYS). THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE GIVING THERE CREDIT CCARD ON LINE. BUT I DO AGREE- NOT MANY PEOPLE WRITE CHECKS ANY MORE.

I took one check-- the buyer was supposed to send a money order but ended up sending a check instead. Rather than send it back and delay longer, I accepted it--just waited for it to clear first, and had no problems. I don't have checks on my 'accepted payments' page, though. I hope those people would use a M.O.--but those are a pain to go out and get. That may hinder a sale--not sure. I'd be interested in hearing from buyers on that one.

It might be nice if we had a way to take payments by check electronically...but then I suppose that also creates the issue for the buyer that they don't want their info in cyberspace in the first place! :)

I too accept checks, although most people do use Paypal as their means of payment. I have had no problems with the checks clearing and I haven't had that many payments by check either.

I take them, but I hardly ever get them. Probably because if you send me a check, I'm going to wait until it clears before I send you anything.. which means between the placement of your order and the mailing of the check and the clearing of the check, it could be almost 2 weeks before I even ship your item!

I take them, I just get it to the bank and wait for it to be cleared before sending the item. I just convo the buyer and let them know that i got his/her check and will write them again when it clears and i sent their purchase to them.

One of my first sales, the person sent me a personal check despite the fact I setup my store to indicate I only accept PayPal and money orders. I accepted the personal check, cashed the check at my bank (didn't deposit it), and mailed off the item. I suppose most sellers will deposit the check into their bank account though.
