Yes, you read it correctly .... Canada Post now has a Ruler of Doom!

They just installed new software at the post office I use ... now they have to input the sizes of the packages for Light Packet (aka those less than 2cm thick packages that they shove through the Slot of Doom).

They whipped out their Ruler of Doom and instantly charged me 2x my usual shipping fee. Fortunately it was just a matter of them not knowing how to use their own Ruler of Doom. After the requisite hand wringing, they figured out the correct package size and charged me the usual amount.

The magic number is 14. Your package has to be over 14cm long. I have no idea what the minimum length is.

Last winter they tried to launch a Curve of Doom ... and apparently failed. I wonder if they're going to be relaunching that campaign this winter.

I really should be easier to get and send packages to Canada! I send lots of things there and sometime it can take forever. . . but I love shipping internationally! So bring it on!

shipping from Canada is frickin expensive as it is... I don't understand why they keep raising it higher and higher and offering shittier and shittier service

All those crazy rules ... they're a freaking obstacle course.

I have almost 200 of these little flat 1.5cm high boxes I use ... I was pretty relieved when they clocked in at 17cm, 3cm over the minimum.

If they try bringing in that stupid 'bendable' rule again (aka Curve of Doom), I'll be seriously annoyed ... that would double my shipping.

hahaha, like we need another 'doom' utensil!

The lady at my post office had a good laugh when she whipped out that clear plastic thing one time and I said, 'Oh, no! Not the slot of doom!'.

I have to say, I really love the Canada Post 'doom' threads. It's so nice to know that I'm not the only one who hates that damn slot of doom.

To Canada Posts' credit, some of my shipping is crazy fast ... I regularly get 4 day shipping to Germany. Lol, no idea how efficient it is within Canada ... nobody in Canada buys my stuff :) Thank god for germans!

Yep, my Canadian and International packages arrive super fast....it's just my U.S. packages that can sometimes take forever. But, to be fair, the majority of them are not too bad either.

================

That Slot of Doom seriously traumatized me when I started selling jewelry. Such a crapshoot to see if the bubble envelope was thin enough ... oops, too thick, start popping bubbles!

I found some flat boxes to use instead ... kinda pricey, but at least I know they'll fit every time.
