COSTUME jewelry seller...oh they're breakable. So a buyer might want a refund, so we'll hold all your money just in case.

but, thats ebay, totally different. buyers have protection from broken items and SNAD items on ebay. neither apply to etsy purchases. paypal is much strister with ebay sellers than etsy sellers

They're probably rolling this out on anyone who uses Paypal. Not just Ebay. Read the thread, it's more than likely on the way.

Paypal...acting just like a bank, they're all crooks. It's just a way to earn interest on the $$$ they hold, like someone already said. They shouldn't do this unless a seller has many complaints against them. Period. It's not their money.

If the new jewelry treatment is like other categories, and it should be, your money will be credited after delivery confirmation and/or positive feedback. So you do have to ship the item and ask your buyer to leave feedback. So the hold should not be any longer than 10 days at most.

While it seems outrageous because it is new here, think about consignment sales in galleries and boutiques. They only pay once per month, usually. there are other fine art selling sites that hold all moneys for every seller until the buyer is satisfied.

It is ridiculous for them to expect you to ship your item before you've actually been paid. Paypal holding the funds for you does not count as paid in my opinion.

I recommend no one keep a balance in paypal. Transfer all paid money into your bank account immediately after receipt. The worst that can happen is you end up with a negative on your paypal account if there is a dispute. But better it be a negative than paypal actually holding your money for ransom.

I hate to hear of that happening. I wonder what would happen to our customers if we told them we would not be able to ship for 21 days to make "sure" that their funds clear Paypal.

Gurrr. And i was pissed when I had a payment "under review" for a couple days.
So annoyed for you.

__________

If your bank account is linked to paypal they will go into that account for the money. Better to link to an account not used for every day living, I'm opening up one next week!

Well folks, 21 days isn't anything compared to a 180 day hold on nearly $700! My friend is going through hell right now with PayPal and her Etsy and Ebay businesses are in limbo!

They closed her account for GOOD and won't give her her money! She can't buy, she can't receive payments!

The reason for the hold: supposedly her businesses are "high risk" with "unusual activity"! What? Whoever thought selling craft supplies would be "high risk" and "unusual"? No claims were filed from her customers, no negative feedback! Do a Google search you'll see story after story of people saying the same thing - PayPal closing accounts and holding money for NO legit reason!

These people are crooks! Period.

I had planned to grand open soon on Etsy. I do not even want to open up my shop because I do not want to deal with PayPal.

These people are getting away with too much!

They are holding money to gain interest and make more money!

You don't care or believe it all until it happens to you! Wake up people.
