Hello,

As a result of a joke in last month’s thread we are going to try to run a project during May to make an Alien. More details in the thread and in the Invision forum - our “Club House”.

We are a Team specifically for makers and collectors of accurate to scale dollhouse miniatures for adult collectors.

Not all dollhouses and miniatures are made to scale for adult collectors. Some dollhouses and their contents are intended for children to play with and are more strongly made for play purposes.

There are many types of miniatures but the ones this group is interested in are in the internationally accepted dollhouse scales of 1/12th (one inch = one foot) - 1/16th (three-quarters of an inch = one foot) - 1/24th also sometimes called half-scale (half an inch = one foot) - 1/48th sometimes called quarter-scale (quarter of an inch = one foot) and the incredibly tiny 1/144th scale also known as micro minis (one twelfth of an inch = one foot).

Good morning Team MIDS

Happy May Day

Posted at 7:21am May 1, 2010 EDT

This month lets have some fun and see if we can produce Aliens. Any type of alien you can imagine made from any materials using any techniques, as long as your alien creature could sensibly fit into a 1/12th scale dollhouse setting. Of course this gives plenty of latitude as your alien might be large by human standards or a tiny little creature. For our purposes a maximum of 8 inches high or long (equal to 8 feet in real life)

Don’t tell too many details of what you are making and at the end of the month (31st May) we will reveal the aliens in our ‘Club House’ and blog and I hope to set up a way to vote for the best and maybe find a small prize.

After that the aliens can be listed for sale if wished and we will endeavour to find ways to promote the team shops - it will, of course, depend on how many and how superb our aliens are as to how much publicity we can raise with them so I hope a lot of members will have a go - you only need imagination and can utilise your own favourite crafts and materials for this small project which shouldn’t take too much time.

Thread here in our 'Club House' for more information and to ask any questions

Hi Tom. You made it as first - how long were you hovering around waiting for me to post the new thread LOL ?

Sorry these shop links weren't live links - can't spot them until I post and of course can't amend posts here.

hey all! sorry i missed chat again this week, cousin is having her hols and we're gallivanting about town :P i'm so happy, bf bought me a pen & touch tablet in hopes that my RSI won't be aggravated (can't use a normal computer mouse anymore due to the pain) and i'm soooo loving it! yea that thing now has my grubby fingerprints all over it :P

gotta get back to minimaking, i've slowed down a little due to pain and real life, am contemplating a few changes in priorities...i do hope i don't have to give up minis altogether, that would be utterly devastating :( and on a different and totally irrelevant note, mcdonalds here has brought back the quarter pounder, YAY! or boo, depending on which camp you're rooting for ha ha.

take care~

Happy first of May!

Where did the April go? I did read the thread even though did not write, sorry about that... this month will be different. Some issues are now solved in the real life so hopefully this will be an easier month and there will be something in my shop too. We'll see.

The alien theme sounds like a project to me! Will indeed try to take part.

Fantastic new work all around the team shops.

Congratulations to the brand new Granny Witchy!

Good morning!

May Day brings back happy memories from my college days. It was always a fun weekend filled with silly activities - tricycle relay races, bed races, air band contests...My daughter attends that college now and many of the activities are the same. I guess not everything changes with time. ;-)

I'm excited about the alien contest. I'm off now to read the official rules in the clubhouse.

Hi Everyone!

I don't know if I can make any aliens!

I did, however, dig out some stuff to work on a couple projects. I can't find any Elfin Thyme or Irish Moss yet here in MI, so I can't work on my gardens (I have been checking everyday, it won't be long).

I realized this morning that even with everything going on, if I am not making a miniature of some kind, I am going to go stark raving mad.

I just dug out my chair patterns and a piece of sheet metal. I don't know if I will actually get anything accomplished, but just knowing that I can cut some chairs out if I have extra time, and that the stuff is right there has made me feel better already! Just looking at an uncut piece of sheet metal makes me feel better.

I am also thinking of trying my hand at some polymer clay again, just because that could be something that doesn't take up much work space, and I can pick it up when I have time, and put it down if I need to do something else.

Anyway, I have never been very good with clay, or anything that I have to basically do free-style, so, I might make some "alien looking" flowers, or tea pots, but, that probably doesn't count.
