Original Post

with lots of sellers jumping ship, and the fact that i don't sell a ton here, i'm wondering if etsy is worth the listing fees.

what is your experience?

(please don't tell me to change my photos or list more.)

it seems to make more sense to put energy into my own site rather than etsy. i'm just not seeing the return.

i do love my etsy peeps and am always interested in keeping in touch, no matter what i do.

Just read about the other threads starting about this and then make up your own mind, only you know what is good for your business.

I think a lot of people are asking themselves the same question April. I think that Etsy is selling a dream and for some people, that dream comes true, but for a lot of others, it doesn't.

I am still doing well in this shop. I've only been seriously listing since February and sales have been steady.

My other shop is doing better in the real world than online. But I plan to keep that shop here as well.

There were times I felt like that too. The first 17-18 months on here I wasnt selling consistently. The last year had been good, but still 10 sales a month babrely paid the fees I was spending. Now since February I have had consistent sales. Believe me there was many times I wanted to throw in the towel and have been very glad I didnt.

I really think it depends on the person. I am one of those stubburn people who honestly will try and try to make it work. Its one of those questions you have to ask yourself "Do I have time for this, Do I want this, Do I think I can do this" and then just keep trying to find new ways to make it happen if you decide to stay.

I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide, but in the end I do think its worth it.

Yes to me Etsy is worth it... I work at it in the hope that someday I will have more time to devote to it and yes turn it into a full time way of making a living.. For now it is a way to gain an education in online selling and ever so slowly build a smallbusiness presence.

Yes Etsy is worth it, you would spend more advertising dollars on your own site. Fact is everyone that advertises their shop on Etsy, advertises your shop too. Regardless of not showing up in searches and all the problems here on Etsy, it is becoming a household name and you get traffic from being here.

It is dependent on the sellers themselves on whether Etsy is the right fit for you, but for .20 and 3.5% I'll stay here : )

I do however have my own website that directs people here to shop and advertise for myself.

Questioning this also. Keeping my shop open, but spending more time on other things, like freelance design. Still enjoy being on etsy, just not working too hard here.
