Curious if Search is actually a thing of the past.

Over the last 6 months the only functions shoppers have been given on Etsy are random tools

heavily promoted TE
Suggested Shops
Items you may like on FP
Facebook connect

Meanwhile search has been horribly neglected. Reports of the - and the word not, not working to narrow searches. Categories still a mess even though we've been told for years that it will be overhauled.
Mistagging a huge issue that seems to get worse daily...

I still use the search function when going to a shopping site, am I alone..is this something of the past?

What are the plans for the search function here on Etsy?
__________

I'm a huge online shopper and almost always use search function. I want to get in and out.

I am also a huge on-line shopper and am getting to where I shop less and less here. It has become way to frustrating to wade through items that have absolutely no business being in the list of items I have entered to search for.

Hiya! We do have some big things in the works for search/categories. For example, we will overhaul the tagging/categorization system and the categories. Alas, these are big projects, but the rewards will be sweet and well worth the wait! I am not sure if I am allowed to share more details at this time, however, speaking as a buyer, seller, and someone who has been listening to visitor/member/buyer/seller requests about this for the past 3.5 years, I will say I am *thrilled* with what is in the works.

We did make some key improvements this year, including location search (a frequent buyer request), major improvements to relevancy search, and more items per page in search results, to name a few off the top of my head. In previous years, we have made major improvements as well.

In short- I wish these things were already here, along with everyone! However, we feel very positive about the direction that we'll be taking with search/categories, and we are excited for the day we can release some of these major changes!

Thanks for jumping in, HeyMichelle!

Hasn't etsy been promising an overhaul of the tagging/categorization system and categories for years now?

On the one hand, I'm excited to think that things will change. On the other, etsy's implementation of the last few new "features" has been so bad - buggy, poorly thought out, lacking robustness and basic expected functionality - that I dread to see what etsy will roll out next.

Some of the changes implemented recently - like limiting the number of results and removing the "jump to" box - have made it more difficult to search.

No matter what's coming up, it seems like etsy is trying to get away from searching the site, which sucks for those of us that use search.

Thanks HeyMichelle - it's good to know Search is 'in the works'.

Overhauling the search engine would be a massive job, very detailed, and I imagine the testing required would be horrendous.

Looking forward to the new search! :D

I'm with rtisan on using the 'search' facilities on sites.
no need to talk to anyone.

not quite sure what the problem with Amazon is though....I love it to bits and bought more there than here ;)

Michelle, no disrespect, but you sound like a politician reading from a script.
and words like 'exciting' and 'positive' and (especially!) 'major changes' don't really do the job anymore they are supposed to do: get us all enthusiastic about the future here on Etsy.

these days it's more like 'OH OH!' when these words are used.
