Foliography: transposition of photosensitivity for drawing light.

The approach to the subject is plastic. Starting from the observation that the plant is photography (like her, it uses light as its primary material), it is necessary to give it a place of value in our eyes, thanks to its imperfections, details invisible to the naked eye, to its intimacy, in order to make itself sensitive to its hidden beauty and better consider and protect it.

The "Foliographies" are a cameraless project initiated in 2019. It begins with nature walks accompanied by the collection of materials that will serve as a basis for photography, and ends in a darkroom. The technique, slow, is in accordance with the rhythm of nature. The photographs produced are then worked in the thickness of the support which, associated with its grain, reveals the imprint of the plant and plays with light. My work echoes the concept of Wabi-sabi as well as the art of kachō-ga, which in Japanese Ukiyo-e print and painting depict images of birds and flowers.

Each photograph is unique, just like the plants that will have been used in its production. Nature, both subject and tool, witness and actress, reveals mental landscapes, where the uniqueness, beauty and impermanence of these, and by extension that of our own nature and existence, coexist.

L’approche du sujet est plasticienne. En partant du constat que le végétal est photographie (comme elle, il utilise la lumière comme matériel premier), il convient de lui redonner une place de valeur dans notre regard, grâce à ses imperfections, détails invisibles à l’oeil nu, à son intimité, afin de se rendre sensible à sa beauté cachée et mieux le considérer et le protéger.

Les « Foliographies » constituent un projet cameraless (sans appareil photo) initié en 2019. Il commence par des promenades dans la nature accompagnées de ramassage de matériaux qui serviront de base à la photographie, et se termine en chambre noire. La technique, lente, est en accord avec le rythme de la nature. Les photographies produites sont ensuite travaillées dans l’épaisseur du support qui, associée à son grain, révèle l’empreinte du végétal et joue avec la lumière. Mon travail fait écho au concept de Wabi-sabi ainsi qu’à l’art des Kachō-ga, qui désignent dans l’estampe et la peinture japonaise Ukiyo-e des images d’oiseaux et de fleurs..

Chaque photographie est unique, à l’image des végétaux qui auront servis à sa production. La Nature, à la fois sujet et outil, témoin et actrice, révèle des paysages mentaux, où l’unicité, la beauté et l’impermanence de ceux-ci, et par extension celle de notre propre nature et existence, cohabitent.
