Announcement    Welcome to the wonderful world of straw creations!
You will find in my shop, decorative objects and jewelry both original and unique and especially THE unusual gift for the wheat wedding.
Wheat is a natural material, so no two creations are ever quite the same. As a result, the creations that are available in several copies may differ slightly from the photographs offered in my shop.
Don't worry, wheat keeps very well, provided you don't expose it too much to water; or birds and mice if there are cobs! Some museum pieces are more than a century old!

My name is Margarete.
Since 1993, I live in a small village in the south of France, surrounded by vineyards, in the Fenouillèdes region.
First a simple pastime, the craft of straw art has become a real passion over the years.... well over 20 years now.
My creations are made with the ancestral techniques of Swiss straw art craftsmanship; I thus reveal to you my origins....

These techniques were developed over a period of more than three hundred years, its peak was in the 1880s. Unfortunately this know-how has almost fallen into oblivion.

Decorative elements are called amenities. They are usually made from the slit straw stems. For example, I make pearls, leaves or roses that you will easily find on my creations.
The "Tortillons", a thin rope quite solid, gives countless choices of decorations, such as lace, rosettes and other stylized forms found in nature. They are made with two thin slices of split wheat stalk, then assembled and twisted together with a kind of wooden spinning wheel.

I work with different kinds of wheat and mainly make my creations at home.
Gruyères red wheat is grown in my garden, without pesticides. The other wheats used come from French and Swiss agriculture that respect nature and the environment.

I started working on this "Swiss Straw Art Craft" thanks to my sister, who taught me everything.
