While my hand work clay I find my personnal balance in the creation of Raku pieces.

Since my childhood I have been attracted by creative ways of doing things with my hands. I was lucky to experiment working with many different materials such as clay, wood, stone, metal and “papier maché” and learn the techniques working with those materials.

I have been throwing clay on the wheel for the past ten years. The workshop is right in the center of Paris, France, and run by Raku ceramic artist Karin Dessag. Naturally, she initiated me to the technique. Thanks to her kind coaching and creative advice, I have mastered throwing earthenware and Raku ceramic work. The magic of raku kicked in. Since then, I never miss a chance to produce new Raku objects and sculptures. Every creation is unique and no matter your expectations, it always turns out the way nature wants it to be.
Raku is an ancient Korean-Japanese ceramic technique that relies on the unpredictable strength of fire. Each object is unique. No two pieces will ever be the same. After a first go in the electric kiln. I have to drive way outside Paris to the countryside. I built my own Raku propane kiln. When the pieces are red hot, I place then into metal containers filled with wood chips. Or other types of combustible, I cover each container to create smoke. The great temperature contrast forces the glaze to crack and smoke then sips through those cracks. After extracting the still hot pieces out of the ashes, I soak them in cold water and scrub off the entire soot residue. The result is surprising every time, and no matter what you expect, Raku is appealing as it decides to be!

Welcome to my Etsy Creattitudes online shop.
Every Raku piece presented here has been wheel thrown or hand modellled, then glased and baked by myself. The workshop is located in Paris France and the outside raku kiln is located near Fontainbleau, a few miles south of Paris. Unlike industrial ceramic work, I produce only a limited quantity of pieces. Glasing is applied by hand with a paintbrush and therefore can produce irregular suface or other imperfections, which are part of this charming ceramic technique, I choose to use with the same passion, year after year.
Glases used for daily products, table wear and plant « containers » are leadless. Only a few decorative bright red glased pieces contain lead.
