Old World Style Brass & Copper plaques featuring warm patina for a vintage look. See more photos at www.frapperie.biz Read on for more details about the product.
Each plaque is hand-stamped using artisan techniques of yesteryear in a small workshop in Lyon, France by Karen Rudd. The text is impressed into the metal using letter punches and a hammer, stamping each character individually, one by one to create each word and phrase. As neither computers or power tools are used to create the signs, it is not possible to add logos or use handwriting samples.
The nameplates are handcrafted from solid sheets of brass and copper that are cut to size and shaped individually. The finish is also done by hand using a chemical agent to blacken the letters and start the patina process. Each nameplate is oiled for protection before dispatch. Note that the plates are not lacquered. This allows the metal to continue to patina over the years, aging gracefully and taking on more character. Brass and copper are wonderful metals that will last your lifetime with minimal upkeep.

Karen Rudd
Owner, Maker
I'm an American living in France since 2011. I started making small nameplates in 2017 for my hand-bound wedding guestbooks then switched to hand-stamping full time in 2021. All my plates are cut, sanded and stamped by hand.

Sizing details
Unsure which size to choose? Not sure it will fit right on your mailbox, door, keepsake box, etc? We recommend cutting a piece of paper to the stated dimensions so you can visualize how the plate will look once in place. You can also request a mock-up to see how your text will fit on the plaque.
Care and Cleaning instructions
Made from solid brass or copper and treated with WD40 rather than lacquer, your plaque will patina over time which is a good thing! To slow down the patina process, polish your plaque with WD40 every few months. To remove excess patina, apply a paste of equal parts lemon juice, baking soda and salt. Wait for a few minutes, rub with cloth to remove then repeat cleaning if needed. Do not leave mixture on longer than 20 minutes. Polish with WD40. Never use a sponge or water. Twinkle brand copper & brass cleaner is also great if preferred.
Use of non-brass screws is not advised due to risk of corrosion, however placement on a metal box is fine as only the unseen side may be affected. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Brass Screws / Non-brass screws & bolts
All plaques drilled with holes come with brass screws suitable for attaching your plaque to a wood surface. If you wish to use your own screws or bolts, it's advised to use brass or copper only since use of other metals may cause corrosion if the plaque is kept outside or in a humid / wet area.
Attaching the Plaque
Plaques can be adhered to most surfaces using a strong neoprene adhesive. If you purchase a plaque drilled with holes, 2 wood screws will be included with your order. If you need to attach to a surface where wood screws will not suffice, we advise neoprene adhesive instead, particularly if your plaque will be outdoors or somewhere humid.
