Always passionate about knives, I started forging in Mayotte in 2008 by chance of a meeting. I then followed a training in cutlery and traditional mahoran forge.
Later, Zacharia, my master or fundi (the one who knows) offered me to continue my initiation at his home. So I was his student I started learning how to make shombo, a traditional Mahoran cutting tool forged in truck spring blades.
At Zacharia's, as with all the blacksmiths on the island, the forge is on the ground: a hole on the ground, a manual bellows, a piece of rail as an anvil, coconut charcoal and off you go!

Subsequently, I tried to acquire some equipment and began to forge for myself: knives, my knives. From there, I worked right to left, at friends' houses, in vacant lots. I took my anvil and everything I needed everywhere I went, in the trunk of my car. I had become a wanderer of the forge.

Back in France, after 4 years spent in Mayotte, I finally have the opportunity to work at home, where the forge has become vertical and where coal has replaced charcoal, which has itself been replaced by gas. It is standing that I embarked on the adventure of damascus and I take a pleasure each time renewed during the revelation of my blades.

The blades I forge today are far from the shombos, yet I have kept from my learning the spirit of "recovery" and the habit of working with little material.
Each of my creations is unique in the form and materials used.
All my knives are made with love and in the continuous quest to improve my technique.

Passionné depuis toujours par les couteaux, j’ai commencé la forge à Mayotte en 2008 par le hasard d’une rencontre. J’ai alors suivi une formation de coutellerie et de forge traditionnelle mahoraise.
Plus tard, Zacharia , mon maître ou fundi (celui qui sait) m’a proposé de poursuivre mon initiation chez lui. J’ai donc été son élève j’ai commencé l’apprentissage de la fabrication du shombo, outil de coupe traditionnel mahorais forgé dans des lames de ressort de camion.
Chez Zacharia, comme chez tous les forgerons de l’île, la forge est au sol: un trou parterre, un soufflet manuel, un bout de rail en guise d’enclume, du charbon de coco et c’est partit !

Par la suite, j’ai cherché à acquérir un peu de matériel et ai commencé à forger pour moi : des couteaux, mes couteaux. A partir de là, j’ai travaillé à droite à gauche, chez des amis, dans des terrains vagues. J’emmenais mon enclume et tout le nécessaire partout où j’allais, dans le coffre de ma voiture. J’étais devenu un vagabond de la forge.

De retour en métropole, après 4 années passées à Mayotte, j’ai enfin la possibilité de travailler chez moi, où la forge est devenue verticale et où la houille a remplacé le charbon de bois, qui a elle même été remplacée par le gaz. C'est débout que je me suis lancé dans l’aventure du damas et je prends un plaisir chaque fois renouvelé lors de la révélation de mes lames.

Les lames que je forge aujourd’hui sont bien éloignées des shombos , pourtant j’ai gardé de mon apprentissage l’esprit de la « récup » et l’habitude de travailler avec peu de matériel.
Chacune de mes réalisations est unique dans la forme et les matériaux utilisés.
Tous mes couteaux sont fabriqués avec amour et dans la quête continuelle d’une amélioration de ma technique.
