Announcement    🌸 Story of LAMERICANA 🌸

It started a long time ago… in my mother’s native village in Madeira (🏝️Portugal) where people use to give nicknames along with the family name. Everybody would call my mother “A Americana” (the American) because her father had worked in Brazil for several years.

One summer, while we were on holidays in Madeira, my husband and my friends met an old man who called me “a filha da Americana” (the daughter of the American). I was then nicknamed “l’Americana” during the rest of our visit. This nickname is still used by my friends.

🧵 👗 My passion for sewing began in childhood, when I wanted to learn from my mother who was already making the family's clothes. Born in a big family (with 5 girls and 7 boys) my mother used to make our dresses. As she had a sense for well fitting garments, no false fold would be found. We were dressed to the nines, flawless. Thus we learned to be patient during endless fitting sessions.
On family pictures, you can see my sisters and I, wearing the dresses that our mother had made. 😉

I wanted to pay her a tribute using her nickname. Inspired by this “saudade” from Madeira, I will give the names of towns and villages of Madeira to my next creations, as you have already noticed with 👗the MACHICO dress👗, MACHICO being the birthplace of my mother 🇵🇹.
