An Air Force Vet with a Hobby
My dad, Tim, is a retired Air Force veteran who has been creating these pens for as long as I can remember. Every year, he'd give me and my sister a special pen that he made on his lathe, and I still treasure those pens to this day.
After going back to school and securing a new job, his hobby slipped into a storage unit in our basement. My dad always talked about selling his pieces at a hobby fair or on a website, but never quite knew how to get started. When the pandemic hit, I was sent home from school and experienced the same boredom and isolation that we all felt at some point this past year. Looking for something to do, I asked my dad if he wanted me to work on sending his treasures to new homes. His face lit up as he ran and grabbed the boxes of pens he's created over the past decade. We painstakingly sorted through each and every unique pen, and my dad somehow remembered what every single one was made of and when he made it. I was amazed.
