From Farm to Pantry

In the first light of morning the business of the day starts. There is over 1000 square feet of garden to attend to, as well 9 fruit trees. Over 20 animals need to have their daily feedings. All before we pick our first bit of produce to start our products.

1000 square feet isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things. We depend on our neighboring farm families to supply us goods we don't have the space to produce ourselves. These like minded neighbors share our passion for sustainable gardening.

Once we turn up the heat on the canner the creative part begins. This is when new recipes are created, and the fresh pickings of the day can be put up to share throughout the year. I can only hope that my grandmother would be so proud.

The best part of our business is our start. Brian and I got together nearly 10 years ago, and I reeled him in with my love of baking. I had an arsenal of my grandmother's recipes at my disposal to keep him 'wowed'. One day, one batch of biscotti was sent off to work with him. That day he had requests from co-workers for more. Adding new variations of the recipe kept the orders rolling in. When we added the garden and started the jams like I remembered growing up, I was able to offer those up as well.

There is nothing more satisfying then hearing the "YUM!" after I get to share my passion with someone else.
