Express your uniqueness through your jewelry! Let them talk about your personality, its complexity, its exciting colorfulness, your moods and your desires.
We all have plenty of faces, moods and desires. Sometimes we feel light and happy, sometimes we want to look mysterious, sometimes rather serious and sometimes simple and elegant.
Cota designs your jewelry which corresponds to all of your faces at any occasion.
Come and discover my different universes and and create your own collection of jewelry reflecting all faces of your rich and complex personality.
Cota is an acronym for Colorful and Contemporary, Ornamental (occidental & oriental) Traditional still Trendy Art jewellery.
Ornamental language is a form of self expression used since the dawn of humanity. Geometric, floral but also figurative ornaments has invaded our word appearing on the walls of our dwellings and institutes, on our cloths and all kinds of objects and tools that we use in everyday life or ceremonial occasions.
It is also a universal language helping humans to understand each other without words through distant times and spaces. Artists and craftsmen has transmitted the same desires and the same fears through this non-verbal communicational form the Far West to the Far East.
We are fascinated by the repeatedness of interlacing patterns appealing for a secret order of our universe, by the idea of infinity that has intrigued men since the beginnings. Looking at ornaments awakes in us feelings comparable to religious ideas without doctrines. They transform us into pious thinkers without being philosophers.
What we feel while looking at the richly decorated walls of mosques, Aboriginal paintings, illuminated medieval manuscripts, African wax tissues, Paul Klee's or a Vasarely's abstract compositions, is more than a mere aesthetic experience. While our eyes get lost in the labyrinth of geometric design, we become part of this abstract universe of forms and colours that link together Cultures and men all over the world.
Ornaments are also reused endlessly by humans. They constitute a royalty-free visual heritage that we can recycle and reinterpret at our pleasure or even mingle them at our pleasure in order to create new objets and artworks.
Cota invites you for a trip around the world through centuries with its colorful handmade jewelry design. Kata Keresztely, artist and designer searches for inspiration in different artistic traditions and uses their patterns combined with contemporary geometric design. She proposes a sensual, original and modern universe.

5 out of 5 starsThe beauty of this pendant is hard to describe. The orange and the yellow invite my mind to a "dance" that could be described with only one word: happy. I can't take my eyes of this pendant and I feel incredibly fortunate to make it a part of my jewelry collection. What a joy it is to wear it!

It's a long work to draw all these patterns and to color them but it's such a peaceful time.
My story
Officially I'm a historian, PhD holder in social sciences specialized in medieval Islamic art and the most important thing that I have learnt rough all these years of research in anthropology and art history is that the our true richness is diversity and our ability to appreciate beauty coming from different cultures and different times.
I'm especially inspired by geometric design which shows similarities from the Far East to the Far West. Patterns and ornaments travel just like people and folk tales as they are borrowed from other cultures forming a universal, non-verbal language. Often, they also express similar ideas and desires such as unity or union but also fears ands doubts. Therefore, their understanding might also help mutual comprehension and the seemingly very different systems of thoughts might get closer to each other through creation.
Creating ornaments is also a mediative and peaceful activity through which one is connected to material beauty and harmony that makes possible an understanding of a different type and on a different level than verbal communication and rational reflection. On the other hand, the birth of new shapes and colors is also exciting, sometimes even ecstatic.
What I also realized during all these years that creation that I never stopped, even though I had no benefit of any kind of it, was almost as essential for me as sharing moment with my loved ones.
This is why, with ETSY's help I try to realize my dream to make a living out of my passion for creation, hoping to find those of you who share with me the passion for colors, playful forms and patterns and who desire to express this passion by making it visible in their everyday life through objets, jewellery and clothes.
