About dansloeildupierrot
In the eye of the Pierrot, or the genesis of a love for the mountain
Although born in a big city, I was from my childhood bathed in mountain landscapes, coming from a family passionate about mountaineering and hiking.
I quickly felt the need to photograph the mountain, but it was only after the acquisition of my first DSLR in 2008 that I really sought to engage in an artistic approach.
Long hours of bivouacs, often alone, allowed me to capture atmospheres that I submitted to the criticism of other photographers, on internet photo forums. Few of my photos have passed the critical stage, but these disappointments have allowed me to sharpen my gaze, to find little by little my style.
And, without me noticing, a trend, or rather an obsession, has emerged in my photographic passion: high-altitude lakes. After about ten years, I finally realized that my bivouac places all had in common the presence of a lake surrounded by mountains.
I have been using a Pentax slR for about ten years, usually mounted with an ultra wide angle lens, more rarely a standard focal length or a telephoto lens. The exaggeration of perspectives due to the wide angle brings to the composition a sense of immensity, and makes it possible to include a foreground that brings the landscape back to its role as a setting.
I also use a lot of tripod and a neutral gradient filter, essential when you prefer the lights at the beginning and end of the day. These shooting conditions require careful preparation of the material to adjust the framing, the composition, and balance the light that will mark the sensor.
All this forces you to take your time. While it may have been quite frenetic in my early days, my practice of photography ended up becoming more contemplative, sometimes almost meditative, barely troubled by the shutter release.
