What is a conversation?

A conversation is a message sent between two members on Etsy using our Conversations tool. Think of it as email just for Etsy members.

How do I view my conversations?

To view your conversations, sign in to your account and go to You > Conversations

How do I send a conversation to a seller?

You can send a conversation to a seller from their shop homepage. Click Contact under the Shop Owner photo at the top right. Or click Contact shop owner on the left under Items.

You can also visit a listing page and click Ask a question at the top right.

Where do my conversations go?

Look for your default conversation folders on the left side of the Conversations page:

  • Inbox: Received conversations are automatically sent here

  • Sent: Conversations you send or reply to

  • All: Where all your conversations—except for spam and trash—can be found

  • Spam: Conversations marked as spam

  • Trash: Deleted conversations

How do I create my own folders? How do I move a conversation to a folder I’ve created?

You can create your own folders to organize and keep track of your messages.

To create a folder, click on the check box next to a conversation you want to put in the new folder, or open that conversation. Select Move and enter the name of a new folder in the dropdown menu.

Move the conversation to an existing folder by selecting the box next to the conversation, Move from the toolbar, and then your desired folder name.

Add a conversation to multiple folders by selecting multiple boxes.

Add multiple conversations to one or more folders by selecting multiple conversations.

Note: Selecting the Move option will remove the conversation from your inbox. It will still be in the default All folder.

How do I remove a conversation from a folder?

To remove a conversation from a folder, click on the folder and select the conversation on the left. Select Remove from Folder

How do I delete a folder?

Click the trash can icon that appears when you hover over the folder name. The folder will be deleted, but any remaining messages in that folder will be moved to the archive.

These conversations can still be accessed by clicking All in the sidebar.

How do I archive a conversation? How do I mark a conversation as Read or Unread?

Select a conversation and click Archive. This will move it out of the inbox. Archived conversations can be found in the All folder.

To mark a conversation as read, select Mark as Read. Marking a conversation as read will remove it from a folder’s unread messages count. Select Mark as Unread to reverse this process.

How do I report a conversation as spam? How do I move a conversation to the trash? How do I permanently delete a conversation? 

To report a conversation as spam, select it and click Report Spam. The conversation will be moved to your Spam folder.

To move a conversation to the Trash, select it and click Delete. This moves the conversation to your Trash folder, but does not permanently delete the message.

To permanently delete a conversation, go into the Trash folder and select it. Then click Delete Forever.

What file types can I upload and attach to a conversation? 

You can attach .jpg, .gif, .pdf, and .png files to a conversation on Etsy.

The size of an attachment in a conversation cannot exceed 1000 x 1000 pixels, or 10MB.

How do conversations from my Pattern site work?

If you have a Pattern by Etsy site, visitors to your website can submit a conversation via a contact form.

Just like your Etsy shop conversations, you can view and manage your messages by going to You > Conversations.

Conversations that originate from your Pattern site will be marked with a Pattern tag in your Conversations inbox.
