How can we help you?

Setting up a Promoted Listings Campaign

If you're looking for a way to further advertise your items on Etsy, you can use our Promoted Listings feature. Learn more about Promoted Listings.

To get started, follow these steps:

1.) Go to Shop Manager > Marketing > Promoted Listings.

2.) Set your daily budget. This should be the maximum amount you're willing to spend per day to advertise your items, and the minimum daily budget is $1.00. Expect all of your budget to be spent, so set it appropriately. We’ll never spend more than your budget.

3.) If you want to automatically promote new listings you add to your shop, click the toggle icon next to Advertise new listings automatically.

Note: There is a limit to how high you can set your daily budget. To calculate your maximum budget, or budget limit, we take the total amount you spent on ads from the previous week and divide it by 7. Depending on your current bill status and billing history, we increase that number over time.

Once you’ve set up your Promoted Listings campaign, all of your listings will be promoted and set to automatic bidding. This means that Etsy automatically chooses optimal bids for your listings.

Bidding options

A bid is the highest amount you’ll pay when a buyer clicks on one of your ads. With Promoted Listings, there are two types of bids:

  • Automatic bidding (Etsy determines the optimal bids for your listings)

  • Custom bidding (you set your own bids)

If you have listings with automatic bids, you can also choose to set a maximum cost-per-click (max CPC). This is the maximum bid amount you're willing to spend to have your ads clicked on.

Custom bidding

With custom bidding, you can manually set your own bid amounts for any or all of your promoted items. A higher bid can improve the placement of your ad, but you’ll pay more for each click.

You can also set an amount lower than the automated bid amount. These listings will still likely get impressions, but they’ll also appear lower in results. We’ll tell you if it’s too low of a bid to be competitive.

Automatic bidding

For automated bidding, Etsy’s algorithm decides the best bid amount for that listing. Our system also looks at the history of the listing along with the history of your shop, as well as overall listing quality. This amount will vary by listing and can change over time.

Here's how to manage your listing bids:

1.) Visit Shop Manager > Marketing > Promoted Listings.

2.) Scroll down to the Ad stats and settings section. Check the boxes next to the specific listings you want to manage.

3.) Choose Automate or Customize.

Setting a maximum cost-per-click

If your listings are enrolled in automatic bidding, you have the option to set a maximum cost-per-click (max CPC). If you have a max CPC in place, none of your automatic bids will exceed that amount.

To set a max CPC, go to the Promoted Listings page and select Manage. Choose the toggle icon next to Set maximum cost per click (max CPC). Enter the maximum amount you're willing to spend to have your ad clicked on.

Note: A max CPC only works for automatic bids. Custom bids can exceed this amount if their bids are higher than your max CPC.

If your max CPC is less than the recommended (automated) bid for a listing, then your ad may be considered a "low bid" and may not receive as prominent placement. We'll indicate this in the Bid field and suggest an amount to keep your ad competitive.

A max CPC doesn't automatically increase all of your bids or affect your listings' existing placement. This setting just allows you to put a limit on how high your automated bids are as they adjust over time.
