SEWING PATTERN (a downloadable pdf file written in English)

Joan

This 1960's bucket hat is now an exciting sewing project. The pattern offers 4 style variations. The asymmetrical brim can be narrow or broad. Either of these brims can also be made to be narrow at the back, broad at the front OR narrow at one side, broad at the other.

This PDF file is instantly downloadable and can be printed on 8.5"x11" letter sized paper (USA) or A4 paper (European). It contains cut-out pattern shapes for a full range of sizes, detailed illustrations of each step of the project, sewing tips, notions required, fabric recommendations, size measurement instructions, links to a printable measuring tape as well as translations of hat sewing terminology in several other language and coupons for your next Elsewhen purchase. The sewing and millinery techniques in this pattern will be useful for future sewing projects and your overall understanding of hat construction.

SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate

HAT SIZES:
20"-24" measuring around the head above the ear (child to adult)

FABRIC AND NOTIONS:
• ½ yard of fabric
• ¼ yard of lining fabric
• ¼ yard of cotton fabric
• ½ yard of iron-on adhesive
• 26”x4” trim fabric or 26” ribbon (optional)
• Approx 30” plastic hat brim wire (optional)
• 2 wire joints (optional)
• Matching thread

(Wire, joints and iron-on adhesive available in the Elsewhen shop)

RECOMMENDED FABRICS:
I recommend rigid fabrics like faux suede or upholstery fabric. You may also use fabrics of medium thickness like velvet, corduroy or microsuede, and adhere them to a layer or cotton fabric with iron-on adhesive. Fabrics that stretch can also be stabilized with this method. If sufficient rigidity is achieved, it is possible to make this hat without millinery wire. For the hat lining, fabrics like taffeta, satin, or pre-washed cotton are best.

Great pattern for an extra cute bucket hat. There are many free bucket hat patterns available, but this one is special because of the unique details and clear construction instructions. This was my first pattern from elsewhenmillinery and I will definitely consider more in the future!
