Knitting pattern: Aran teacozy. Featuring a seed stitch/moss stitch edging, and a central Aran diamond, this teacosy is knit in two pieces and seamed together at top and bottom, leaving a gap for spout and handle. It is sized to fit a standard teapot of 20 inches (51cm) in circumference; the cosy measures 6 inches (15cm) in height. The top of the teapot is left uncovered in this design, so you don’t have to remove the cosy each time you wish to make tea.

Any Aran or worsted yarn should be suitable for this pattern, 5 mm needles/US8 are recommended, but there is some leeway given that Aran yarns can vary a little in thickness. I would suggest being guided by the needle size recommended for the Aran yarn you are using.. A cable needle is helpful for working the cables, and a knitter's sewing needle (or tapestry needle) is required to seam the two pieces together.

The pattern would suit an intermediate knitter if knitted as written; however it would be suitable for a beginner if the central diamond is worked in purl stitch only instead of seed stitch.

I'm a knitter from the Aran Islands and am delighted to have my own original designs now available to download here : )

This is the most amazing tea cozy pattern. I plan on knitting a few of these up for friends for gifts for Christmas. Thank you so very much for thinking this up. I am so excited, and I plan ok making quite a few for myself!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!!!

I’m not a great knitter but this was easy to follow and knitted up quickly with some nice Donegal wool. I made it one size bigger but don’t think it was necessary. Love it and will definitely knit another.

Great pattern! I have knit 5 of these already. I knit 3 for staff members, one for my son who says it is his go to hat for walking between classes at college and one for myself. It is a very elegant pattern and complex but actually very easy to knit. Looks great on any head! Highly recommend!
