Knitting pattern: Salthill Wristwarmers. I recently added my Salthill beanie knitting pattern and knew I wanted another accessory to match them - so I made the Salthill Wristwarmers! As a knitter from the Aran Islands, I love adapting the Aran style to suit modern knitters. Here, I have taken a classic Aran style cable lattice pattern and adapted the motif to work it in the round, on either circular needles or double-pointed needles. The finished wristwarmers are seamless, with the cables flowing from cuff to wrist without interruption. The Salthill Wristwarmers takes their name from the popular Galway suburb and resort, Salthill. Salthill is famous for its long promenade by the sea, perfect for a soothing or bracing walk – depending on the weather! These wristwarmers are the perfect accessory for those colder and windier days.

The cabling pattern is not overly complicated, but there is some adjusting of the stitch marker to ensure that the cabling pattern stays seamless throughout. I would consider this a pattern suitable for intermediate knitters.

The wristwarmers come in three different widths and lengths, and you can mix and match to create just the right size for you. Any Aran yarn should be suitable for this pattern, 5 mm needles/US8 and 5.5mm needles/US9 are recommended, but there is some leeway given that Aran yarns can vary a little in thickness. I would suggest being guided by the needle size recommended for the Aran yarn you are using. One 50g skein is enough for the smallest size, and 100g of yarn should be enough for the other sizes. I would suggest a requirement of 70-140 metres/77-154 yards of yarn.

I’m not a great knitter but this was easy to follow and knitted up quickly with some nice Donegal wool. I made it one size bigger but don’t think it was necessary. Love it and will definitely knit another.

This is a wonderful pattern. It has been a while since I have worked cable stitches but this pattern made it pretty easy. I have made a hat out of Mission Falls 1824 superwash wool and one out of Queensland Brisbane superwash. Both are beautiful and very comfortable to wear.

This pattern is simple, satisfying and comes out really nicely. I used slightly smaller needles (15mm) and knit it a bit longer.
