About

Specialising in jewellery design and silversmithing. Jewellery, Inspired by Nature, Crafted by Hand

Hello and welcome, my name is Aoife and I am the creative soul behind the scenes. Each piece I create has been designed and hand crafted by me from my studio in West Cork, Ireland.

I love taking a piece of metal and manipulating it to create something both visually appealing and functional. Whether it's the color, texture or form I always apply my 'organic' method. I begin with a rough design or idea of what I want to create and do some sketches. Beside the sketches I take note of materials needed along with the tools I could use to achieve my vision. I cut my metal, put on my music and get to work. I always allow myself the freedom to let the creative process take over, this allows the design to take shape the way it's destined to! I have come up with some of my favorite pieces this way.

My love for jewellery design all began one sunny day in 2006. I was strolling around a beautiful town in Australia called Byron Bay when I stumbled across the most amazing bead shop. I was immediately captivated by the colorful window display and the thousands of beads which were glistening in the summer sun. Upon entering the shop I felt a flutter of excitement rush through me. I spent an eternity sifting through the beads and eventually made my very first bracelet. I reluctantly left the shop (it was closing time) and let my imagination wonder... Imagine making jewellery for a living! Imagine waking up every morning and doing a job you adore! Imagine having the freedom to work from home and play music as loud as you like...ah one can only imagine I thought to myself.

I returned to Ireland late 2008 and began making beaded jewellery in my spare time for friends and family. Two years crept by and I decided it was time for another adventure, I found myself sitting on a plane headed for South East Asia. I traveled for 6 months exploring as many cultures as I could and experiencing as much as possible. I loved the slower pace of life and of course the sunshine! I eventually ended up in a beautifully enchanting town on the outskirts of Bali, Indonesia named Ubud. This town is famous for its silversmiths and craftsmen. The streets are lined with ancient stone sculptures, colorful art and enchanting scenery - I felt like I had stepped back in time. I came across a sign inviting people to tour a silversmiths studio and jumped at the chance. I saw first hand how sheet metal could be transformed into something beautiful and delicate... a passion had been born.

I returned home and applied to college, I got in and studied jewellery design and art metalwork for two years. I finished May 2014 and was awarded full distinctions. Since then I have been working towards opening my very own Etsy shop. I have just made the move from Cork city to West Cork. It's not the quaint little cottage by the sea just yet but its a step in the right direction....

Thank you so much for taking the time to read through my 'about' page. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to drop me a line, I'd be only too happy to hear from you.
Have a wonderful day,
Aoife
