I grew up in a very creative household so it was no surprise when I decided to take up a career in craft. My mother is a dressmaker so my work is very much influenced by fashion and fabric. The textures and patterns in fabric and in particular lace inspire my work. These influences mixed with my own personality as a maker creates a unique almost Vintage style to my work. I design and create unique handcrafted original ceramics from my home in Rearcross Co. Tipperary. Each piece is textured with a fabric pattern and formed from a flat slab of porcelain clay which is then draped over a plaster mould to dry. Once dry the pieces are painted rustic pink, cobalt blue or grey/black. Then it is bisque fired to 1050 C. After this it is dipped into a transparent glaze and placed into the kiln to be fired to 1250 C.
My aim is for my work to please both the hand and the eye, a soft material that becomes solid but still holds that soft appearance is very intriguing. I want to offer my customers a bit of luxury and elegance for their home decor and also their daily lives. To offer something from my hands to yours. All my pieces are food and dishwasher safe.
