Drawn from My Brain is a collection of humorous prints and artwork for home and office decor.

Most of the items you'll find listed in my shop are prints of watercolor and ink paintings I've created and sold in the past, but I'll occasionally offer some original paintings as well. The majority of my pieces are 8X10 inches, and have white backgrounds or quarter-inch white borders within the dimensions, so mattes aren't really necessary. All pieces are sent unframed.

I ship all purchased pieces under cover sheets, in thick manila folders with tabs around all open sides, to prevent the work from shifting. Then I insert the folder in a rigid, cardboard photo/document holder to avoid bending.

If you'd like to learn more about me, please check out my profile.

Thanks for stopping by my shop. Hope to hear from you soon!

Gratefully Yours,

Scott Mendenhall

Updates

5 degrees outside this morning. My lower level studio is FREEZING! Thank goodness for my little space heater. It’s been working overtime. Stay warm, everybody!
Thank you all for an amazing year! I look forward to listing all kinds of fun, new prints in 2018! If there’s anything you’d like me to write or draw about, please let me know!
One of my customers sent me this drawing her daughter made for her college dorm. It’s her own hilarious version of my blob fish print! I love the fishnet stockings!

About

Drawn From My Brain

Hey, There! My name is Scott Mendenhall, and welcome to Drawn From My Brain!

I enjoy creating watercolor and ink pictures that make people smile, especially pieces that target specific interests that individuals can relate to, like cooking, pets, and nature. People often ask me, "where do you get your ideas?" The answer is always the same. "From my brain, I guess." Hence the name of my shop. Of course, it's not that simple... I'm a voracious reader, a TV junkie, and a general observer of life, so my brain has a lot to choose from!

I enjoy writing as much as drawing, so I'll usually incorporate words in my artwork. Sometimes the words are a narrative, sometimes they're a conversation, and sometimes they're mottos to live by. I like weird stuff, including Bigfoot, haiku poetry, quotes, science, and giving inanimate objects and animals a voice.

My creative process is simple:
1. Think up an idea while sitting in my big, comfy, writing chair.
2. Go downstairs to my studio and sketch it out in pencil on my watercolor pad.
3. Ink it.
4. Paint it.
5. Show it to the world!

I normally create pieces that are 8X10 inches, because they are a nice size for a gift, and are easy to mail. But I'll create other sizes as well.

I share my studio with four other friends-- a tortoise, two chinchillas, and a very, very old box turtle. Our upstairs neighbor is a 2-foot bearded dragon lizard named Howie. He looks like a dinosaur, but he's gentle as a lamb.
