I contacted Maria about the possibility of purchasing this item. Maria was very accommodating and gave me an excellent high-res download. I can't recommend Maria enough and will definitely be keeping an eye on her page for future purchases.

About

Art, Craft and Design based in Cork, Ireland on the themes of the human form, play, spontaneity, nostalgia and fun.

I am a Cork based artist, researcher and teacher. I work from Over the Line studios, Ballyvolane, Cork, Ireland.

My work travels between digital and analogue lands, hoping to explore the nature of human connection. I find the immediacy and intimacy of drawing and painting from life satisfies this urge. I greatly enjoy the challenge in capturing the light, tone, atmosphere and spirit in a particular sitting and model.

In the studio, I also create much longer portraiture work. There is another satisfaction in this, having the time to work and re-work images. I have fine art prints available for that work, and occasionally I will sell the original oil painting here.

I find the impact my digital work has on my painting very interesting to observe, as my treatment of colour, line, shape and form becomes more graphic as a result of my years working in digital media. This history in digital work seeps into my analogue work, resulting in bold colour, strong lines and distinctive shapes. Also, it sometimes results in a total break from figurative / portrait painting and veers into playful abstractions based on colour and shape - more spontaneous and free than my sometimes very slow portraiture process! In these works I hope to capture this sense of fun and light heartedness, as well as a naive approach to colour, shape and line.

The subject matter for my work ranges from portraiture, nature, imaginative composition and abstraction, based on life drawing sessions in the studio, experiences in nature and experiments in the digital world. I am interested in how digital and analogue worlds can collide to create new paths to explore and new techniques to make tangible the images I have floating around in my brain!
