It will be trimmed about 26–30in tall to fit the shipping package.

It requires sun to grow, and does best in moist, but well-drained soil. It is a fast-growing and hardy species that resists attack by both pests and diseases. It is also highly tolerant of frost and can survive in moderate drought conditions.


In spring, the foliage is reddish pink, later becomes dark green.

XiangChun trees are relatively easy to grow. As long as its roots are not damaged (dry-out or decayed). If it grows well during the summer and the fall, it will easily survive during the winter.

Based on our experience, we suggest the followings for planting and harvest XiangChun Trees:

1. Plant the tree in normal garden soil. Cover enough soil over the roots (~ 4-5" high).

2. Remove most of the leave on the tree, so that the water in the plant body will be preserved effectively. Even better, cut the branch to about ~5-6" from the roots. New branches will grow after 1-2 months.

3. At beginning days of planting, water the tree to have the surrounding soil sufficiently wet or moisturized every other two days. After a couple of weeks, water it every other 3 days. When new leaves or branches grow, water less frequent. When the tree grows normally (healthy), there is no need to water it. XiangChun Tree requires least attention, when it grows.

4. The leaves will fall out in the period of late fall and the winter. They will regrow in the spring.

5. In the spring and early summer, the leaves are tender and red (红油). It is the best time for harvest and cooking purpose. When it goes into later summer, the leaves turn green, only the sprout may have a bit of red color, its fragrance fades a bit as the time passes to the fall.
