Absolutely incredible large decorative plate made by Wedgwood of Etruria and Barlaston to commemorate the wedding of Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles of Wales in July of 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral.
This striking Wedgwood plate is in truly immaculate condition with such beautifully vivid colours and decoration and a lovely thin red edging totally reminiscent of 80s decor. It features totally charming hearts framing ‘CD’, gorgeous little cherubs amongst shades of green foliage, profile images of both Diana and Charles, billowing Union Jack flags and wedding bells with lovely ribboned bows.
This design of plate featured in an iconic episode of the much loved British TV comedy Only Fools and Horses as an example of excess stock Del Boy had bought as one of his get rich quick schemes. A fabulous little extra layer of popular culture significance to this piece!
Josiah Wedgwood founded Wedgwood in 1759 as an independent potter in Burslem, England and still produce incredible pottery over 260 years later - including many of the materials Josiah invented, such as Jasper, Queen's Ware and Black Basalt.
It is the perfect addition to any commemorative collection to display proudly or equally for use in a particularly decadent and wonderful British Afternoon Tea or dinner party and we can’t wait for it to find a new home.
Diameter - 25cm.
We really can't wait for this incredible plate to find a beautiful new home!
