Capture a moment in nature and live in it forever ...
The idea to create flower suncatchers and lamps from natural flowers came to me as an eager wish to capture a sunny summer moment with a mild breeze of fragrant flowers, bright colors and a fragrance of a flower meadow, which I wished to take with me into the dark and cold wintertime. Embedded into epoxy resin these flowers will never wither – they will flower forever and bring the feeling of summer all year round.
We have a small family design studio in Latvia since 2009. I pick the flowers together with my mother and daughter in our garden and in the surrounding meadows. We dry the flowers and then we color each flower and leaf with a small paintbrush to avoid color fading in a longer period of time. This work is very time consuming - every flower has a different coloring technique. Flowers, which are too fragile for coloring, are being colored very precisely under a magnifying glass after embedding them into resin. Epoxy resin is also casted by hand in several layers to embed the flowers inside the material and we spend many hours eliminating air bubbles. Natural plants contain a lot of air between the flower petals. Each of the layers needs to harden for several days and then the final grinding of the edges can be done and the engraving of text by hand – all engravings are made in artist’s handwriting with a hand-engraving tool.
Each of our flower items is completely unique - the flower composition never repeats! Two equal flower suncatchers or lamps don’t exist anywhere in the world. Therefore all our flower items are one-of-a-kind, which makes each of them a unique gift.
