I'm a licensed art teacher in the United States, living and teaching abroad in the middle east. I began creating these illustrations in the past year and a half, I like to think as a manifestation of my fears and doubts of expat life. The animals in my pieces are exploring and wandering through webs of unsorted emotions. Sometimes in a curious peaceful manner, sometimes in a race to escape.
I have experience working in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics, but I've always returned to simple pen and ink drawings for their honesty and quick application. Ideas can be directly transferred to paper and little can be done to mask mistakes or change the direction a piece is moving in. I think this creates the opportunity to take more dynamic and creative steps to achieve the outcome you desire. My aesthetic philosophy has been influenced by ideas from Japanese wabi sabi art, particularly in accepting imperfections and spontaneity.
I hope you enjoy browsing my shop, feel free to message me with any questions about my pieces or about the experience of living abroad. I'm so excited to hear from you!
