Geoffrey crea arte da quando ha imparato a tenere in mano una matita e dipinge a olio dall'età di 15 anni. Con un vasto catalogo costruito grazie a una pratica pittorica costante che dura da oltre 30 anni, e con le sue opere attuali che mostrano la sua voce più forte e sicura di sempre, è pronto a portare il suo messaggio di pace, amore, connessione e unità al mondo in un momento in cui crede che sia più necessario che mai.
Il suo lavoro è stato influenzato dal suo interesse di lunga data per la pittura, la natura, la spiritualità, le arti marziali giapponesi non violente, l'Aikido, lo yoga, la meditazione, gli scritti di Deepak Chopra, Thoreau e altro ancora. Nel tentativo di portare la pace nel mondo, l'artista sceglie di creare spazi morbidi, silenziosi, rilassanti e meditativi, dove sia lui (durante l'atto creativo) sia chi osserva l'opera hanno l'opportunità di entrare in contatto con una consapevolezza e una realtà più profonde, non mentali e non giudicanti.
L'arte di Geoffrey, sebbene di natura astratta, ricorda un paesaggio in continuo mutamento. Le pennellate ritmate e affannose suggeriscono un flusso fluido di movimento da un'area del dipinto, uno spazio, un momento, all'altro. Mentre il paesaggio delle nostre vite e le circostanze di oggi cambiano e differiscono da quelle di ieri, noi cambiamo, ci evolviamo. Non ci sono due momenti uguali, ognuno è unico e tuttavia, al di là di questa realtà, esiste uno spazio/realtà infinito e senza tempo che non cambia mai. È costante e immutabile. Questo è lo spazio che egli intende penetrare e rappresentare durante l'atto del dipingere/creare.
Nato a Suffern, New York (contea di Rockland) nel 1975, l'artista Geoff Harrison è cresciuto nel New Jersey settentrionale e si è laureato in Belle Arti presso l'Università del Rhode Island nel 1998.
Ha intrapreso una carriera nel settore delle cornici di alta gamma nell'arco di 27 anni, iniziando nel New Jersey e a New York City e infine a Seattle, dove la sua tenacia gli ha procurato un impiego presso la prestigiosa Plasteel Frames di Seattle. Ha acquistato l'azienda nel giro di otto anni e, oltre a migliorarne la già ottima reputazione per la qualità, ha sviluppato una linea di cornici in legno massello con angoli chiusi (con scanalature, intarsi e sagomate), progettandole e vendendole localmente tramite Plasteel, oltre a venderle all'ingrosso ai corniciai a livello nazionale.
Fondò anche una galleria d'arte che offriva sia arte contemporanea che opere del XIX e inizio XX secolo. Durante questo periodo, Geoffrey fu il principale corniciaio e curatore d'arte delle collezioni più preziose del Pacifico nord-occidentale. Nel frattempo, continuò a sviluppare e affinare la propria voce nella pittura.
Il lavoro di Geoffrey è direttamente correlato al respiro e alla respirazione, al movimento del respiro, del corpo e dello spirito, all'essere presenti e allo stato di flusso in cui tutto è possibile.
Geoffrey has been creating art ever since he could hold a pencil, and painting in oil since age 15. With an extensive catalogue built up from a consistent painting practice spanning over 30 years, and his current work showcasing his strongest, most confident voice yet, he is prepared to bring his message of peace, love, connection, and unity to the world at a time when he believes it is needed more than ever.
His work has been influenced by his longtime interest in painting, nature, spirituality, the non-violent Japanese Martial Art, Aikido, yoga, meditation, the writings of Deepak Chopra, Thoreau, and more. In an effort to bring peace into the world, the artist chooses to create soft, quiet, soothing, meditative spaces where both he (during the act of creating) and those viewing the work are provided an opportunity to go within and connect with a deeper, non-mental, non-judgmental, awareness and reality.
Geoffrey’s art, although abstract in nature, is reminiscent of a landscape in flux. The breathy, rhythmic brushstrokes laid down suggest a smooth flow of movement from one area of the painting, one space, one moment, into the next. As the landscape of our lives and the circumstances of today change and differ from that of yesterday, we change, we evolve. No two moments are the same, each one is unique and yet beyond this reality, there is an infinite, timeless space / reality which never changes. It is constant and unwavering. This is the space he aims to enter and depict during the act of painting / creation.
Born in Suffern, New York (Rockland County) in 1975, Artist Geoff Harrison was raised in Northern New Jersey and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.F.A. in Studio Art in 1998.
He developed a career in high-end picture framing over 27 years starting in New Jersey and New York City and finally in Seattle where his persistence got him a job with Seattle’s prestigious Plasteel Frames. He would purchase the company within eight years and in addition to improving it’s already great reputation for quality, he developed a line of closed corner (Wood Splined, Inlaid, and Shaped) hardwood picture frames, designing with and selling them locally through Plasteel as well as wholesaling them to picture framers, nationally.
He also established an art gallery offering both contemporary art and 19th and early 20th c. art. During this period, Geoffrey was the premier picture framer and art handler of the most valuable collections in the Pacific Northwest. All the while he continued to develop and refine his own voice in painting.
Geoffrey’s work is directly related to breath and breathing, movement of the breath, body, and spirit, being present, and being in the flow state where all things are possible.
