All about KBH Create
Hello and welcome! We are a family-run business built on the twin foundations of creativity and passion. We're a family with a mix of last names, so when we decided to turn our hobbies and design work into a business, combining our names just made sense, and that's how KBHC was born.
KBHC is a true reflection of who we are as a family. We have diverse interests, but at the heart of everything is design. All four of us are natural designers, inherently drawn to tinkering, refining, and reshaping. Even our youngest loves designing games and game content. We all share a love for art and making, re-using, repurposing, and re-making for the sheer joy of solving problems and tackling new tasks. It's that joy we hope to share with you.
At the core of our family—and our family business—is the love and trust we have for one another. We met in high school, though it wasn't until years later that we married. We struggled together through the lean years of graduate school and moved to a new state sight-unseen during the lockdown era of the pandemic. But we've always shared a love for creating, and through it all have been imagining, designing, and making together.
Our journey into 3D printing and design began during a challenging time. We bought our first 3D printer just for fun, but a few days later, Terry was laid off from his job. Faced with new expenses and a need to recoup costs, we began tentatively selling a few designs... and we loved it! We started participating in local markets (shout out to the Fulton Street Market in Grand Rapids in particular!) and expanding our offerings.
Most of our work involves 3D printing and design. FDM printing is our solution to a problem—we lack space for traditional workshops, so until we can build a real one, computers and printers are our go-to tools. We love experimenting with materials, particularly wood-infused PLA. While PLA is more eco-friendly than some plastics, we remain mindful of its drawbacks and strive to mitigate them whenever possible. We reuse and recycle everything that doesn’t go directly into our products, down to the boxes our materials come in.
Everything we sell is designed and made by us, with frequent version changes and upgrades. Though we may be less face-forward than some in this social media age, we're here, quietly modeling, designing, printing, cutting, and shaping. Our products may have a bit of that Etsy handmade charm, but they improve constantly as we test, adjust, and refine our techniques. We test and check every product before sending out to ensure quality and durability—a fact our kids love, because it means they get a lot of mildly flawed discards!
Interested in something custom? Reach out. If we can do it, we will do it with gusto, and if we can’t, we’ll let you know, but we love tackling design problems.
