Kibbutz Neot Semadar is an intentional community in the southern part of the Negev desert in Israel.
It is a picturesque oasis, a green organic spot in the yellow barrenness of the desert landscape. It was established in 1989 by a group of friends, hoping to learn together the secret of cooperation and harmonious community life by mutual living & working . The Art Center was designed & constructed by the people of Neot Semadar along 15 year. It was a main project that contributes for the Team building of the community, and created a space for art, music and dance.
It is a fantasy in the desert: a huge building, colorful and outstanding, consisting of many animals & birds reliefs, stained glass windows & decorated railings.
A 14 feet high tower stands in the middle: This is the passive cooling tower of the Art Center, and it is the Eco friendly air conditioning of the entire building.
It cools the hot & dry air of the desert climate by evaporation of water & natural flow of cool air.

Inside the Art Center there are a few workshops for divers materials, operated by the local artists:
Wood - decorative carpentry, wood turning on the lathe, wood mosaic, and wood sculpture.
Metal: jewelry, metal smith & black smith.
Ceramics: Pottery, porcelain light fixtures, ceramic jewelry.
Glass: stained glass windows, stained glass home decor.
Silk illustrating: tinting, painting and illustrating on natural silk scarves.
Each of the artist works on his own specific qualification, and we all inspire each other & cooperate.
The Art Center is a cooperative, which means that all the income is shared, same like all the economy of Neot semadar.
Some of the artists has previous experience and degree in art, some had started here and learnt while creating. It is a fortunate thing to work in a place so full of inspiration like this art center.
