A SubsurfaceDesign começou com uma observação simples: vivendo acima do Aquífero Edwards, bebo diariamente água que se moveu através de calcário formado a partir de ossos de criaturas marinhas com milhões de anos. Essa verdade literal se tornou minha principal metáfora criativa.

A inspiração criativa flui como água subterrânea. Ela surge de fontes coletivas mais profundas do que a consciência individual, reúne sabedoria à medida que se infiltra em camadas de memória cultural e experiência pessoal, e então emerge em momentos específicos, com avanços criativos, clareza artística, o conhecimento repentino do que precisa ser feito.

Utilizo a técnica tradicional de pintura em seda serti (resistente à base de arroz) para tornar esses sistemas subterrâneos visíveis. Cada pintura explora a ecologia dos aquíferos, os ciclos sazonais, as árvores sagradas e as forças misteriosas que se movem sob a superfície da vida cotidiana.

SubsurfaceDesign began with a simple observation: living above the Edwards Aquifer, I drink water daily that has moved through limestone formed from sea creature bones millions of years old. That literal truth became my central creative metaphor.

Creative inspiration flows like underground water. It rises from collective sources deeper than individual consciousness, gathers wisdom as it percolates through layers of cultural memory and personal experience, then surfaces at specific moments, creative breakthroughs, artistic clarity, the sudden knowing of what wants to be made.

I use traditional serti silk painting technique (rice-based resist) to make these underground systems visible. Each painting explores aquifer ecology, seasonal cycles, sacred trees, and the mysterious forces moving beneath the surface of daily life.
What you find here - silk paintings, prints, and stickers - aren’t decorative objects. They’re invitations to remember your own underground springs, to trust the creative sources flowing beneath your awareness, to honor the seasonal rhythms that govern both water and inspiration.
