WHO AND WHAT IS Timeless Threads Two?
WHO WE ARE... Fashion has no end or limit.
Creativity, imagination, passion, expression, music, beauty, joy, pain, the earth, the ocean, its creatures, the planets, and the sky ... where does it end? How can we name or explain all that exists? Or, how is it experienced and viewed by everyone of us? By every thinking and feeling person individually? Jewelry is an expression. Whether it's through designing, creating, wearing, or witnessing, it is a timeless, limitless expression of who we are, where we live, who we want to be, what we've experienced or wish we could, how we feel, and who we love. It is sought-after, admired, gifted, and desired.
Timeless Threads Two would like to present to you our limitless, timeless hand-picked pieces of all tastes, styles, eras, and value. We have something for everyone at varying prices to meet every style, need, and budget. Here is WHAT to know about our store and our beautiful inventory era:
GEORGIAN ERA (1714 -1837) Characterized by intricate metalwork and nature-inspired motifs like flowers and animals, evolving towards more ornate designs with ribbons and bows, and finally embracing Neoclassical influences with cameos and classical motifs.
VICTORIAN ERA (1837-1901) Spanning from sentimental and symbolic motifs to elaborate designs with darker gemstones and mourning jewelry, eventually embracing naturalistic designs inspired by Japan and the Arts and Crafts movement.
Historical Styles:
ART NOUVEAU (1890-1910) Known for its organic, naturalistic designs using materials like glass, horn, and enamel. The style is characterized by flowing lines, nature-inspired motifs like flowers, insects, and flowing hair, and handcrafted techniques, often using enamel, opal, and moonstone.
EDWARDIAN (1901-1915) Also known as "La Belle Epoque," this era is characterized by frivolity and wealth, often featuring delicate and intricate designs, elegance, and femininity utilizing platinum, intricate lace-like patterns, delicate filigree, and diamonds.
ART DECO (1920-1939) A reaction to Art Nouveau, characterized by geometric patterns, bold colors, symmetry, and sleek streamlined aesthetic featuring simple shapes like squares and triangles. A time of experimentation with unusual materials like platinum, diamonds, onyx, and colorful gemstones such as emeralds, sapphires, and rubies.
The Art Deco movement attempted to combine the harshness of mass production with the sensitivity of art and design. The movement died with the onset of the Great Depression and the outbreak of World War II. The mass productions were known as "Costume Jewelry" made of white metals, simulated gemstones, and synthetic materials like Bakelite, a synthetic resin used to mimic the appearance of natural materials like bone, wood, and gems. Rhinestones, Lucite, and faux pearls were popular substitutes for precious stones. Costume Jewelry is now called "Fashion Jewelry," consisting of much of the same materials and sold at a considerably lesser cost.
RETRO (1935-1950) Popular during and after the Second World War, Retro jewelry featured bold, oversized designs, often in yellow or rose gold, using large colored gemstones such as aquamarines, amethysts, and citrines.
MID-CENTURY MODERN (1950-1970) This era embraced clean lines, minimalism, and abstraction, with designs influenced by architecture and industrial elements. Materials like silver and stainless steel became more common.
AVANTE-GARDE (1900s-Present) This is not a single, definitive era; rather, a continuing approach that challenges traditional jewelry design through experimentation with materials, forms, and concepts. It can incorporate elements of various art movements like Cubism, Surrealism, and others.
MODERNISM (Late 19th/Early 20th Century) This style emerged during a time of societal change embracing new forms and techniques, often incorporating surrealism, biomorphism, and primitivism.
MODERN CONTEMPORARY (1970-Present) Contemporary jewelry is diverse, reflecting individual artistic expression and often incorporating a wide range of materials and techniques. Sustainability, personalization, and customization are also key trends.
Contemporary & Avant-Garde Styles:
MODERN JEWELLERY (1960s onward): This era saw a rise in individuality, with jewelry designers embracing new materials and techniques to create avant-garde pieces that pushed boundaries.
AVANTE-GARDE JEWELRY: A general term for experimental and unconventional designs that push the boundaries of traditional jewelry making.
CONTEMPORARY STYLES: Often features bold geometric shapes, unusual materials, and focuses on craftsmanship and individuality.
BLING BLING: A flashy and elaborate style often featuring gold and diamonds, designed to make a statement.
SPACE AGE JEWELRY: Inspired by the launch of the first satellite and the moon landing, this style features geometric forms and cosmic motifs.
FLOWER POWER JEWELRY: Free-form, long and loose, often incorporating natural materials like Native American and handmade jewels.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
OVERLAPPING ERAS: There's overlap between some of these periods. For example. Art Nouveau and Edwardian styles were popular around the same time.
AVANT-GARDE AS A CONCEPT: Avant-Garde jewelry doesn't fit neatly into a specific timeframe because it's more of an approach or philosophy than a distinct historical period.
GLOBAL VARIATIONS: Jewelry styles and trends can vary across different regions and cultures.
