Bare Elements: A Natural & Plastic Free Journey
Bare Elements, LLC begon in december 2018 als twee vrienden, Alanna en Jess, die voor de lol samenkwamen om een natuurlijke deodorant en shampoo voor persoonlijk gebruik te maken. Zowel Alanna als Jess hadden geprobeerd om natuurlijke producten op de markt te vinden, maar hadden geen geluk met het vinden van iets dat voor hen werkte. Ze besloten dat ze wilden proberen om zelf iets te creëren, en dachten dat ze in het slechtste geval tenminste een leuke meidenavond zouden hebben!
Omdat beide zeer grondige mensen waren, werd er veel onderzoek gedaan voor de eerste poging. Daardoor was de eerste poging een supersucces! Hoewel het niet hun oorspronkelijke bedoeling was, waren ze zo enthousiast over hun succes, dat ze het wilden delen met vrienden en klanten van Alanna's winkel. Ze bestelden in een kleine bulk van typische plastic containers zonder veel nadenken. Op dit punt waren Jess en Alanna enigszins bewust van het verminderen van afval, maar dachten er zelfs nooit aan dat er alternatieve verpakkingen beschikbaar waren. Toen de doos met plastic in de post kwam, werden ze overweldigd door het besef hoeveel plastic er wordt gebruikt in verpakkingen voor persoonlijke verzorging. Ze besloten dat ze absoluut een alternatief moesten vinden voor plastic verpakkingen en de plasticvrije missie was geboren. (Ja - ze hebben het plastic eerst opgebruikt - later meer op de plasticvrije reis!)
Alanna en Jess hebben op Valentijnsdag 2019 officieel Bare Elements-producten uitgebracht in de schappen van Alanna's winkel. In het begin verkochten ze alleen in de winkel en op een paar lokale kunstenaarsmarkten. Vrienden en andere klanten waren zo onder de indruk van zowel het product als de verpakking dat ze Alanna en Jess inspireerden om groter te gaan en een Etsy-winkel te openen. Voortdurende ondersteuning van klanten heeft hen in staat gesteld om hun productlijn uit te breiden, een LLC te creëren en de naam Bare Elements te handelsmerk!
Momenteel opereert het bedrijf aan de basis. Ze gebruiken allebei persoonlijke tijd buiten hun andere banen om het bedrijf te laten groeien - en ze houden van elk moment ervan - vooral de dagen dat ze samenwerken! Ze hopen te blijven bouwen en groeien, zodat ze op een dag liefdadigheidsdonaties kunnen doen aan doelen die belangrijk voor hen zijn.
Sinds de realisatie van de "plastic nachtmerrie" hebben Alanna en Jess zich allebei aangesloten bij de zero-waste-beweging en blijven ze streven naar plasticvrije oplossingen, niet alleen in hun producten, maar ook in hun dagelijks leven. Alanna's winkel is ook overgestapt op plasticvrije oplossingen voor de rest van hun producten! Ze werken om anderen te inspireren om veranderingen aan te brengen en ook om plasticvrije opties te creëren waar ze moeilijk te vinden zijn! Ze besteden veel tijd aan het onderzoeken van de duurzaamheid en veiligheid van de ingrediënten die ze gebruiken. Ze doen voortdurend onderzoek naar het vinden van de veiligste, meest natuurlijke en meest duurzame ingrediënten en leveranciers.
Bare Elements, LLC started in December 2018 as two friends, Alanna and Jess, getting together just for fun to create a natural deodorant and shampoo for personal use. Both Alanna and Jess had been trying to find natural products on the market, but were not having luck finding something that worked for them. They decided they wanted to try to create something themselves, and figured worse case scenario at least they'd have a fun girls-night!
Both being very thorough people, a lot of research was done before the first attempt. As a result, the first attempt was a super success! Although it wasn't their initial intention, they were so excited with their success, they wanted to share it with friends and custumers of Alanna's store. They ordered in a small bulk of typical plastic containers without much thought. At this point Jess and Alanna were somewhat mindful about reducing waste, but never even considered that alternative packaging was available. When the box of plastic came in the mail they were overwhelmed with the realization of just how much plastic is used in personal care packaging. They decided that they absolutely had to find an alternative to plastic packaging and the plastic-free mission was born. (Yes--they used up the plastic first--more on the plastic-free journey later!)
Alanna and Jess officially released Bare Elements products on the shelves at Alanna's store on Valentine's Day 2019. At first they only sold in store and at a few local artist markets. Friends and other custumers were so impressed by both the product and the packaging that they inspired Alanna and Jess to go bigger and open an Etsy shop. Continued support from customers have allowed them to continue to expand their product line, create an LLC, and trademark the name Bare Elements!
Currently the business is operating grass-roots. They both use personal time outside their other jobs to grow the business--and they love every moment of it--especially the days they work together! They hope to continue to build and grow so that one day they will be able to make charitable donations to causes that are important to them.
Since the "plastic nightmare" realization, Alanna and Jess have both joined the zero-waste movement and continue to strive towards plastic-free solutions not only in their products but in their every day lives. Alanna's store has also been transitioning to plastic-free solutions for the rest of their products! They work to inspire others to make changes and also to create plastic-free options where they are hard to find! They spend a lot of time researching the sustainability and safety of the ingredients they use. They are constantly doing research on finding the safest, most natural, and most sustainable ingredients and suppliers.
