My journey with fermented foods started out of necessity. After a series of infections forced me to take powerful antibiotics, my gut flora was destroyed. I was left with stomach pain, trouble digesting my food, nausea, vomiting, and repeated intestinal infections- all due to the fact that my body's natural bacteria had been decimated. I sought out ways rebuild my body's natural defenses and discovered the power of probiotics. Probiotic pills were helpful, but they lacked that biodiversity that my gut needed. So I started culturing my own food and drinks. Over the years I've experimented with many different fermented foods but I've found kefir to be the most helpful. Water and milk kefir have helped me successfully rebalance my gut bacteria and heal my damaged microbiome. Kefir means “good feeling” in Turkish, and it certainly helped me feel good. Now I want to share that "good feeling" with others.
