Where it all began
Back in 2018, I had gone to an anime convention and saw my very first ever fursuits. The following year I was more curious about how people actually made those suits and if I could find a way to make them cheaper and faster. I did find this way by using very cheap foam, about $1 per head, and I could make one in a day. Keep in mind these suits had bad foam, paper eyes, and minimal if any sewing. Over the years I researched the proper ways to make suits as well as all the different kinds of materials I could use. I then switched to the normal foam and sewed all of my seams. At that time, however, I still used the low-quality fur on amazon. I have since switched to HowlFabric's fur, a high-density, and high-quality fur. I also now have plastic eyes with proper good eye mesh, which is superior to buckram, but allows for less detail than buckram, as you can draw directly on it whereas this mesh has better vision but you have to hand paint. I am always looking to upgrade things and make better quality products until I am satisfied calling all of my suits high-quality. The price, unfortunately, increases as the materials and my skills increase in quality. I went from spending a day on a head to spending a week if not more. This results in a much higher quality product and I am proud of the result. I set my pay at roughly $10-12 an hour. So I am still underpaying myself, but per my original idea for this shop, I want to make it cheaper than other makers. So while I should be charging close to $1K per head based on the time I spend on it, I lower it down significantly. This has cost me, however, and I can only take a small number of commissions during the school semesters to be able to make the heads in a timely manner while still working on my college work. I am aiming to become a psychologist, and every suit I sell helps me keep my bills paid while attending college.
