Helen se unió a Etsy en julio de 2009. Diagnosticada con esclerosis múltiple diez años antes, Etsy le brindó la oportunidad de trabajar por su cuenta a pesar de su enfermedad y discapacidad. Vendió su primer cojín a Australia y el resto es historia.
La filosofía de Helkatdesign es crear cojines y estampados que no se produzcan en masa ni lleven la etiqueta «Hecho en China». Tanto entonces como ahora, tras el fallecimiento de Helen, creo que el origen de los productos que compramos en Gran Bretaña es de vital importancia. Obtenemos todos nuestros materiales en Gran Bretaña, o incluso localmente. Helkatdesign es una auténtica empresa británica de barrio. Imprimimos y confeccionamos toda la gama en el ático de nuestra casa en Wiltshire, un antiguo hospital eduardiano reconvertido, y enviamos los productos a todo el mundo.
Helkatdesign crea textiles para el hogar: cojines, almohadones, fundas y lienzos estampados a mano; utilizando materiales y telas naturales de alta calidad. Inspirados en el campo, los grandes símbolos e iconos británicos, las imágenes heráldicas y las banderas internacionales, con un toque de estilo de Nueva Inglaterra y textiles escandinavos.
¿Qué nos diferencia? La parte trasera de nuestros cojines tiene tanto trabajo y detalle como la delantera, y nos gusta pensar que eso es lo que los hace únicos. Estábamos cansados de dar la vuelta a los cojines y descubrir que la parte trasera era lisa, así que con los cojines de helkatdesign, no importa cómo los coloques en el sofá, siempre lucirán espléndidos.

Para los amigos y clientes que tuvieron el privilegio de conocer a Helen.
Lamentablemente, Helen estuvo muy enferma desde noviembre de 2014 a causa de un tumor cerebral canceroso. Por desgracia, su valiente lucha y su excepcional entereza no fueron suficientes. Helen perdió la batalla y falleció el 1 de abril de 2015.

Helen joined Etsy in july 2009. Diagnosed 10 years before with Multiple Sclerosis, Etsy give her the chance to be able to work for herself around her illness and disability. The first cushion sold to Australia and the rest is history.
The ethos of Helkatdesign is to create cushions and prints that are not mass produced, nor have a label saying ‘Made In China’ on the back. At the time and now after Helen passing away, I believe that the origin of the products that we buy in Britain is incredibly important." We source all of our materials in Britain, if not locally. Helkatdesign is truly a British kitchen table business. We print and sew the entire range from the attic space in our Wiltshire home, a converted Edwardian hospital and ship the final products all over the world."
Helkatdesign produces soft furnishings- cushions, bolsters excluders handprinted canvases; using natural, quality materials and fabrics. Inspired by the countryside great British symbols and icons, heraldic images, international flags, with a feel of New England style and Scandinavian textiles.
"What makes us different? the back of our cushions have as much work and detail as on the front and we like to think that this makes our cushions unique. We were bored of turning cushions over only to find a plain back so instead with helkatdesign cushions, whichever way you throw them on the sofa, they will still look splendid."

For the friends and customers that had the privilege to know Helen.
Sadly Helen had been very ill from November 2014 with a cancerous brain tumor, sadly Helen's brave fight and exceptional carriage unfortunately wasn't enough. Helen lost her fight and sadly passed away on the 1st of April 2015.
