Atelier "La Bauta" was born more than 20 years ago when two boyfriends (Armando and Arnisa) students of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, decided to make Venetian masks in papier-mâché to pay for their studies.
In the beginning we sold the masks made to the shops. One day we decided to open a shop of our own where we could sell all our production of masks.
Opening a shop in Venice where rents are very high and all the management is very difficult due to the lack of cars was not easy. Everything is done with boats.
But to our surprise things went well and we did a job that we both loved so we decided to give up our studies (with the disapproval of the parents) and devote ourselves full time to this great passion.
After a few years and after studies on the historical customs of various eras, we began to make historical costumes. Today we have more than 450 costumes from all ages. For this we have our chosen seamstress after a careful selection.
Today we have three shops in Venice, one of historical costumes, historical shoes and accessories and 2 of original Venetian masks in papier-mâché.
We are a point of reference for Venetians and many tourists who come to visit us every year.

L'Atelier “La Bauta” nasce più di 20 anni fa quando due fidanzati, studenti della facoltà di Medicina e chirurgia, decidono di realizzare maschere veneziane in cartapesta per pagarsi gli studi.
All’inizio vendevamo le maschere realizzate ai negozi veneziani finché un giorno abbiamo deciso di aprire un negozio esclusivamente nostro dove poter mettere in vendita tutta la nostra produzione di maschere.
Aprire un negozio a Venezia dove gli affitti sono altissimi e tutta la gestione è molto difficile per la mancanza delle auto non è stato facile, ma si fa tutto con le barche.
Con nostra sorpresa le cose sono andate bene e, facendo un lavoro che entrambi amavamo abbiamo deciso di lasciare i studi (seppure con la disapprovazione dei genitori) e dedicarci a tempo pieno a questa grande passione.
Dopo qualche anno e dopo studi sull'abbigliamento storico di varie epoche abbiamo anche iniziato a realizzare costumi storici. Oggi abbiamo più di 600 costumi di tutte le epoche realizzati dalla nostra sarta scelta dopo un'accurata selezione.
Abbiamo tre punti vendita a Venezia, uno di costumi storici, scarpe storiche e accessori e due di maschere veneziane originali in cartapesta, in cui proponiamo anche l'esperienza di poter dipingere la propria maschera.
Siamo un punto di riferimento per i veneziani e per tanti turisti che vengono ogni anno a trovarci per Carnevale e per ogni rievocazione storica.
