We make them ourselves. A print-on-demand shop sends your file off to a machine somewhere and nobody looks at it before it ships. We print in our own workshop in Europe, and you see a proof before it goes to press.

The ink is a pigment set, not dye. Dye is what goes grey first in a room that gets afternoon sun. Ours is an Epson UltraChrome HDX, ten colours.

The geography is drawn with a cartographer rather than traced off stock art. You notice that standing close to it. Clean coastlines, small place names you can still read.

Enough that people walk up to it and start hunting for their own places. Country capitals, major cities, the biggest rivers and lakes, and the landforms — mountains, deserts, plains, uplands. US maps add all fifty states, the interstates, national parks and national forests. Three of our world maps mark UNESCO World Heritage sites, and they say so in the title.

Size decides how much of it you can read. At the small end you're reading countries and capitals. If you want to find the town you stayed in, go bigger. Between two sizes, take the larger one. It's the one thing that's hard to undo later.

Same map in all four. What changes is what sits behind it, and that's what decides whether it holds a pin on its own.

Canvas — 310g poly-cotton canvas over foam board, wrapped on a 3 cm (1.2 in) wood frame. Holds pins. Ready to hang.

Framed — 190g fine-art watercolour paper on foam board, framed individually in wood. Holds pins. The most finished of the four, and the heaviest.

Mounted poster — the same 190g paper on a warp-resistant foam board. Holds pins. No frame, so it's lighter on the wall and on the price.

Poster — 192g enhanced matte paper, rolled in a tube. Paper on its own. The pins come with it, but it needs framing or mounting first or they've got nothing to grip.

All four come with 100 push pins.

US, UK and Canada orders: no. We send to all three DDP, so duties and import fees are already in the price at checkout and nothing is collected on delivery — including when the map is a gift going to someone else's address.

Anywhere else it depends on where you are. We ship from our workshop in Europe, and your country may charge import tax, duty, or a carrier handling fee when the parcel arrives. Those are set by your customs authority and the carrier, not by us, and they vary with the item and its value.

Yes. Names and a date, a quote, or both, printed across the map.

Tell us the wording. Your two pin colours as well, and the frame colour if you picked a framed size. You'll see a proof before anything goes to print, so nothing is final until you say it is.

Yes. Within 24 to 48 hours of ordering you get a digital proof. Wording, spelling, layout. It doesn't print until you tell us it's right.

So keep half an eye on your messages after you order. We hold the job until we hear back, and that's the one thing that can push your delivery date out.

Canvas and framed maps arrive ready to hang. Mounted posters ship flat, so there's nothing to flatten out first. Rolled posters come in a tube. All of them come with the 100 pins.
