Hi Justin. Sorry this did not meet your expectations. I guarantee you won't find anything like this at any dollar store. The cover is heavy gauge poly that's pretty much indestructible, and the paper is the trademarked "Rite-in-the-Rain" waterproof paper - the best quality in the industry for decades. This product was designed to stand up to outdoor use, similar to ones used by field engineers and tradespeople. The Angler's Log fills the gap left by other books available for recreational fishing. I know that if you use it as intended, you'll appreciate its quality and compact size. Tight Lines. Rick
