Somos um estúdio têxtil e uma casa de tecidos com sede na Índia, fundada na convicção de que o tecido deve ser considerado com a mesma seriedade que a peça de roupa ou o objeto que ele se tornará. Vamos além da cor e da composição da fibra, observando as características do fio, a construção da trama, o peso, o caimento, a textura e a forma como o tecido reage ao ser cortado, lavado e usado.
Nossa coleção não se define por um único método de produção. Ela reúne tecidos feitos à mão, tecidos produzidos em pequenos lotes em fábricas têxteis e tecidos especiais produzidos com máquinas escolhidas pelas qualidades que exigem. Um denim compacto, uma gaze arejada, um espinha de peixe estruturado, um dobby texturizado e uma seda fluida exigem algo diferente de seus artesãos.
Não acreditamos que "feito à mão" signifique automaticamente melhor. Acreditamos que o tecido mais fino resulta da combinação do material, conhecimento e método certos para a sua finalidade.
A ZAN nasceu de uma estreita colaboração com tecelãs e artesãs, e essas relações moldaram fundamentalmente a maneira como entendemos os têxteis. Um artesão nunca é apenas o par de mãos que executa um desenho. Suas observações sobre o comportamento do fio, onde uma estrutura pode precisar de ajustes ou qual acabamento permitirá que o tecido se assente adequadamente, muitas vezes determinam o que o tecido se tornará em última análise.
Ao mesmo tempo, o conhecimento técnico de fábricas especializadas permite que outros tecidos alcancem a consistência, largura, densidade ou desempenho exigidos por sua confecção. Valorizamos ambas as formas de expertise. O que importa para nós não é se um tecido vem de um tear manual ou de uma máquina específica, mas sim se foi produzido com cuidado e qualidade.
Alguns dos nossos tecidos são descobertos através de longas buscas; outros são desenvolvidos reconsiderando a contagem de fios, as estruturas de tecelagem, as gramaturas, as cores ou os acabamentos. Em ambos os casos, somos atraídos por fibras naturais, texturas incomuns e tecidos com uma identidade material distinta, desde algodão, linho e cânhamo até seda, lã, fibra de banana e misturas cuidadosamente selecionadas.
Nossos tecidos são escolhidos para pessoas que percebem a diferença: designers, costureiras, artistas, estúdios e criadores curiosos que permitem que o próprio material influencie suas criações.
ZAN é um estudo contínuo sobre o que o tecido pode ser: preciso ou irregular, discreto ou expressivo, tradicional ou totalmente novo.

We are a textile studio and fabric house based in India, built around the belief that cloth should be considered with the same seriousness as the garment or object it will eventually become. We look beyond colour and fibre content to the character of the yarn, the construction of the weave, the weight, drape, surface and the way a fabric responds when it is cut, washed and worn.
Our collection is not defined by a single production method. It brings together handwoven textiles, small-batch mill-woven cloth and specialist fabrics produced using machinery chosen for the qualities they require. A compact denim, an airy gauze, a structured herringbone, a textured dobby and a fluid silk each ask something different of their makers.
We do not believe that “handmade” automatically means better. We believe the finest fabric comes from matching the right material, knowledge and method to its intended purpose.
ZAN began through close work with weavers and women artisans, and those relationships fundamentally shaped the way we understand textiles. A maker is never merely the final pair of hands carrying out a design. Their observations of how a yarn behaves, where a structure may need adjusting, or which finish will allow the cloth to settle properly often determine what the fabric ultimately becomes.
At the same time, the technical knowledge of skilled mills allows other fabrics to achieve the consistency, width, density, or performance their construction demands. We value both forms of expertise. What matters to us is not whether a fabric comes from a handloom or a particular machine, but whether it has been made thoughtfully and made well.
Some of our fabrics are discovered through long searches; others are developed by reconsidering yarn counts, weave structures, weights, colours or finishes. Across both, we are drawn to natural fibres, uncommon textures and cloth with a distinct material identity, from cotton, linen and hemp to silk, wool, banana fibre and carefully considered blends.
Our fabrics are chosen for people who notice the difference: designers, dressmakers, artists, studios and curious makers who allow the material itself to influence what they create.
ZAN is an ongoing study of what cloth can be; precise or irregular, quiet or expressive, traditional or entirely new.
