El hecho de que haya decidido ir al FIT a estudiar moda todavía me sorprende hasta el día de hoy. La verdad es que estaba fuera del campo izquierdo. Y realmente me estaba esforzando para postularme ya que no estaba en absoluto calificado (de hecho, la primera vez que postulé, no fui aceptado). El hecho de que seguí presionando, aprendiendo y esforzándome más es un verdadero testimonio de mi profundo amor por la creación de ropa. La razón por la que me sorprende es porque descubrí este amor un poco tarde en la vida. Pero honestamente, siempre he sido un florecedor tardío.
Una cosa que aprendí rápidamente en la escuela de moda es que estaba mucho más interesada en crear ropa que en diseñarla. Fue por esta época que descubrí la creciente comunidad de costura indie y supe que había encontrado mi nicho. En algún lugar alrededor de 2011 decidí que algún día estaría diseñando y vendiendo patrones de costura, a pesar de que no tenía idea de cómo lo haría realidad.
Avance rápido hasta 2017 y estoy muy emocionado de debutar mi primer patrón. Crecer con la increíble comunidad de costura en línea ha sido una bendición, y no podría estar más feliz de poder proporcionar a esa comunidad patrones únicos y de calidad redactados con un marco pequeño en mente. El movimiento hecho a mano es uno que aprecio en mi corazón, y espero contribuir con mi diseño único y estilo de construcción.
Enseño de la misma manera que coso, un método que llamo la "línea de montaje". Esta técnica te ayudará a hacer menos viajes de ida y vuelta desde tu máquina a tu plancha, y con suerte te ayudará a ser un cosido más rápido y eficiente.
No puedo esperar a que cosas conmigo mientras hago crecer mi línea de patrones para ofrecer todo un armario lleno de ropa divertida pero cómoda.
The fact that I decided to go to FIT to study fashion still surprises me to this day. The truth is, it was sort of out of left field. And I was really pushing myself to apply as I was not at all qualified (in fact, the first time I applied, I wasn’t accepted). The fact that I kept pushing and learning and trying harder is a true testament of my deep love for creating clothing. The reason it surprises me is because I discovered this love a little late in life. But honestly, I’ve always been a late bloomer.
One thing I quickly learned in fashion school is that I was far more interested in creating clothing than I was designing it. It was around this time I discovered the growing indie sewing community and knew I had found my niche. Somewhere around 2011 I decided that one day I would be designing and selling sewing patterns, even though I had no idea how I would make it happen.
Fast forward to 2017 and I am so excited to debut my first pattern. Growing with the amazing online sewing community has been such a blessing, and I couldn’t be happier to be able to provide that community with quality, unique patterns drafted with a petite frame in mind. The handmade movement is one that I hold dear to my heart, and I look forward to contributing my unique design and construction style.
I teach in the same way I sew, a method I call the “assembly line”. This technique will help you make less trips back and forth to from your machine to your iron, and hopefully help you to be come a faster, more efficient sewist.
