ABOUT ME...
I got my 1st Holly Hobbie sewing machine at a very young age.
I would sew all my dolls clothes.
I never used a pattern.
I guessed the shapes and sizes to fit perfectly on their little bodies.
My childhood fashion influences come from watching Gidget, Elvis Presley, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, Wonder Woman, Charlies Angels and Fantasy Island.
In my teen to adult years I was impressed by anyone who had the courage to be different.
My 1st album was by Bjork when she was in the Sugar Cubes. An Icelandic pocket rocket of a woman who stretches your ears as much as she stretches fashion boundaries.
I was inspired by Madonna with her sweet wildness. That is where I fell in love with the clothing styles of Jean Paul Gaultier. Outrageous expression of the female form. Alexander McQueen is my idol with his historical nostalgia displayed in jaw dropping sets of absurdity. A magnificent creator of the make believe, fabricated on the catwalk.
My sewing passion was first influenced by my mother who was a Widgee in the 1950’s. She worked as a seamstress who made ballgowns for the local dances.
My eldest sister wore mini skirts and platforms in the 1960’s.
My next sister and 2 brothers were sharpies/mods of the 70’s.
All these influences had their own style, pizazz and definable class.
I loved the well cut tailored clothes, the varied materials mixed with colors and patterns. Bodies were well dressed, and tastefully covered or uncovered.
Lines were accentuated as movement brought the clothes to life.
The clothes had authority, or set the scene for their environment, not the other way around.
This is what I want to bring to those who wear my up-cycled and original Bindividual designs.
A class all your own.
No one else will have what you are wearing.
For iconic individuals who don’t necessarily have a pretense for luxury, but a calling for freedom.
The unique freedom of clothing attitudes that influence your environment.
