Obtuve mi primera carta astral en la universidad porque una amiga apostó a que la astrología era mucho más que los horóscopos de los periódicos. Tenía razón. Pasé los siguientes años aprendiendo a interpretar cartas astrales de la manera tradicional, con tablas de efemérides reales y un montón de notas garabateadas. Con el tiempo, llegué a ser lo suficientemente buena como para que la gente empezara a pedirme que les interpretara las suyas.

Quince años después, todavía me emociono al abrir una nueva carta astral. Cada una es diferente, y creo que eso es lo que me ha hecho volver. Utilizo las Efemérides Suizas para todos mis cálculos porque la precisión es fundamental al cartografiar el cielo de otra persona. Y anoto cada lectura a mano porque nunca he logrado que una plantilla capture la esencia de lo que hace que una carta astral sea interesante.

Si ya te han hecho una lectura astrológica antes y sentiste que podría tratarse de cualquier persona, esta será diferente. No porque intente decirte lo que quieres oír, sino porque las matemáticas no mienten, y yo tampoco.

I pulled my first birth chart in college because a friend bet me there was more to astrology than newspaper horoscopes. She was right. I spent the next few years learning to read charts the traditional way, with real ephemeris tables and a lot of scribbled notes. Eventually I got good enough that people started asking me to read theirs.

Fifteen years later, I still get excited when I open a new chart. Every one is different, and I think that's what kept me coming back. I use the Swiss Ephemeris for all my calculations because precision matters when you're mapping someone's sky. And I write every reading by hand because I've never been able to make a template capture what makes a chart interesting.
